White House Reacts to Gold Medal in Beach Volleyball

 
John D. McKinnon reports on the White House. The White House reacted with studied aplomb today, when asked about President George W. Bush ’s reaction to the gold medal won by the U.S. women’s beach volleyball team. At right is Treanor One of the team members, Misty May-Treanor , generated perhaps the most memorable video of Bush’s visit to the Olympics earlier this month when she offered her bikini-clad backside for a presidential slap after a good play in practice. “Mr. President, want to?” she asked. Bush gave a back-of-the-hand pat to her back, in a scene that was replayed endlessly on cable TV. Asked on Thursday if Bush had seen the final game the night before, spokesman Gordon Johndroe responded, tongue planted firmly in cheek. “Do you know if he stayed up to watch the beach volleyball game last night?” he was asked.
