White House Touts Factory Reopening

 
Brody Mullins reports on politics President Barack Obama said his $787-billion stimulus package was a down payment on a revitalized U.S. job market fueled by a new “green” economy. On Sunday, he got his first dividend. In a statement released by the White House, the administration touted the decision last week by a California-based maker of energy-efficient windows to buy and reopen a shuttered window manufacturing company in Chicago. The White House credited the move to new funding in the stimulus bill for weatherization programs. Vice President Joe Biden commended California’s Serious Materials for buying the Chicago’s Republic Windows and Doors and promising to rehire its 250 employees at their previous wages. “The reopening of this factory and the rehiring of these workers provide an excellent example of how the money in the Recovery Act is targeted to spur job creation quickly,” said Biden. “These workers will not only earn a paycheck again; they will go back to work ...
