WSJ/NBC News Poll: Americans Side with Israel

Susan Davis reports on politics. Nearly half of Americans believe the Palestinians are to blame for the recent outbreak of violence in the Middle East, according to the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll released Wednesday evening. Some 46% of respondents said Palestinians were more responsible for the violence versus 18% who said Israel shouldered the burden. Just 13% said both were equally to blame. As for U.S. involvement in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, 43% said our foreign policy has been “even-handed” while 37% said it is “too one-sided.” Among respondents who thought it was too one-sided, 30% said the U.S. favored Israel over Palestine while 3% said the U.S. favored Palestine over Israel. These attitudes, however, are fairly consistent, with nearly identical numbers reported when WSJ polled respondents’ views on Israel and Palestine in 2002, 2001, and 2000. (link)
