WSJ/NBC News Poll: Americans Up on Obama, Down on Economy

Susan Davis reports on polling. A strong majority of Americans approve of how President-elect Barack Obama is handling the transition and preparing for the Oval Office, according to the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll. Some 71% said they approve of the incoming administration’s efforts, while just 14% disapprove. Those ratings have held steady since the previous WSJ/NBC News poll in December, when slightly more (73%) approved and slightly less (13%) disapproved. But while Americans are riding high on Obama, they are doubtful about a quick recovery for the U.S. economy. More than half of Americans, 57%, believe the economic recession will end between one to three years from now. Some 17% were even more pessimistic, stating that they believe the recession will last more than three years. Just 4% said they believe it is “almost over” or will be within the next six months. And 20% said it will be over within the next year. For complete poll results, check back at  ... (link)
