Tea Part organizer vows to burn Pelosi and Perriello in effigy

Pelosi will be burned in effigy at a Tea Party rally in Virginia next week, the event's organizer told CNN.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – The organizer of a "Tea Party" protest in Virginia says he intends to move forward with plans to burn House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Tom Perriello in effigy next weekend at a rally to protest Democratic health care legislation.
The event is scheduled for next Saturday in Danville, which borders North Carolina and sits at the southern end of Perriello's congressional district. Perriello, a Democrat, narrowly won his House seat in 2008 and is considered a top target of Congressional Republicans in next year's midterm elections.
When news of the rally surfaced Friday, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Chris Van Hollen condemned the plans as "shocking and despicable."
But Nigel Coleman, the organizer of the Tea Party, told CNN he doesn't see what all the fuss is about. The attention, he said, should be on the Democratic ...

Find more top political news, videos, and blogs on BeltwayBlips: Congress, Nancy Pelosi, Virginia Foxx, Peter DeFazio, CNN

Pelosi weighs in on Mass. senate battle

WASHINGTON (CNN) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is weighing in on the battle to succeed the late Sen. Ted Kennedy.
Pelosi is heading to Boston Friday to formally endorse Rep. Mike Capuano in his bid for the Senate.
Capuano, a six-term Democrat who represents the state's 8th Congressional District, is battling Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley, Boston Celts co-owner Steve Pagliuca and Boston businessman Alan Khazei for the Democratic nomination.
"Whether taking on the CEOs of the financial services industry, supporting marriage equality, or voting against the Iraq War because he didn't believe Bush Administration made the case to take military action, Mike Capuano has a proven record of standing up for progressive values and what he believes is right. I am proud to endorse Mike Capuano for U.S. Senate," said Pelosi in a statement.
Capuano is considered a trusted adviser to Pelosi. In late 2006, then Speaker-elect Pelosi tapped Capuano to oversee the Democrats' transition to the ...

Find more top political news, videos, and blogs on BeltwayBlips: Congress, Nancy Pelosi

MA SEN: Pelosi endorses Capuano

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro House Speaker Nancy Pelosi endorsed Rep. Mike Capuano in the Democratic Senate primary in Massachusetts.
"[Capuano] and Pelosi are to appear together in Boston Friday morning to formalize the endorsement," writes the Boston Globe . "While Pelosi is popular with Democrats, she is a target of Republicans and conservatives. So while her backing could help Capuano, particularly against Attorney General Martha Coakley, in the Dec. 8 Democratic primary, it could hurt him among Republicans and independents if he wins the nomination and moves to the Jan. 19 special election."
In a statement, Pelosi praised Capuano's health care vote as "courageous." Remember, Coakley said she would have voted against it, because of the Stupak Amendment. Capuano at first sharply criticized Coakley for that. But the next day, he backtracked.

For healthcare bill, Pelosi had to leave Left Coast behind

The House speaker built a majority one compromise at a time, yielding on liberal touchstones including abortion.

House health bill passes

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro The House health care bill passed 220-215 in a late-night vote yesterday. Remember that Democrats won two special elections on Election Day on Tuesday. And this bill passed by two votes. Coincidence?
