Georgia Senate Runoff Results - Chambliss vs. Martin
Politics Daily —
Filed under: 2008 SenateFrom the Georgia Secretary of State, 65% reporting, and Chambliss is leading by almost 300,000 votes 60 to 40%. Georgia watchers will note that most of Fulton and half of populous Dekalb county is still out and it's been going to Martin by 2-1, but at this point I don't think there will be enough votes there to close the extremely large gap, after noting that Exurban Atlanta counties of Cobb and Gwinnett have some significant returns yet to come in. If this holds, and again, I think it will, it will underscore that Obama had a very good coattail effect in Georgia, and his absence on ...

Georgia Run-off
Riehl World View —
Too early for anything definitive, but at this point, Martin's counties aren't coming in quite as large as he needs in early returns for a win. But only 4 or so of the 10 have actually reported. And they aren't complete.
SenateGuru has a breakdown of the ten top counties for each candidate for Nov 4th. Mitchell County is something of a bellwether due to being tied on the 4th.
Compare those results to today's as they come in and you'll have an early picture of the race. ...

Blowout For Chambliss?
Blue Crab Boulevard —
... It looks like Saxby Chambliss has won - handily - in the Georgia runoff election and will retain his seat in the US Senate. This looks like a very strong win, not even close. (At this writing it looks like a 20 point victory, but that will likely change a bit, even though it is with 81% of precincts reporting). Via ...

Season’s Beatings
The Democratic Daily —
... promised to be a firewall against the Democrats in Washington
Crazy? Yes. But sanity from Georgia’s voters was not to be expected. As was Chambliss’ victory expected, as a sitting incumbent. Some hoped for a Democratic miracle, but I myself was pessimistic. Why?
Because, in Georgia GOP candidacies, there ain’t no sanity clause.

Saxby Chambliss's victory
Betsy's Page —
Congratulations to Senator Chambliss for his decisive victory yesterday. He won 57.4 to 42.6 . As Patrick Ruffini pointed out yesterday, a substantial victory by Chambliss would be an indication that Democratic victories across the board on November 4 were a result of Obama's popularity and not an indication that the all these red states were truly moving to the left. It's in Georgia that we may begin to see indications of a natural tightening of the House generic ballot for 2010. And it's not so much the African American vote -- though that's a big deal in Georgia -- ...
