GOP Plan: Even Worse Than You Are Hearing
The New Republic blogs —
From the moment the the Republican leadership released its alternative approach to health care reform, critics (including me) pointed out that it was unlikely to make a dent in the number of people without insurance. On Wednesday, the Congressional Budget Office came out with its preliminary estimates of what the bill will do. And, sure enough, the critics were right. Overall, ten years into implementation, the plan would not significantly change the number of people with health insurance. In all, 17 percent of the legal, non-elderly pouplation--or about 52 million children ...
House Republicans Health Care Plan: 12 Hour Live Telecast

... House Republicans are holding a 12-hour live online telecast today starting at 1pm Eastern to expose the perils and pitfalls of Pelosicare — and to spotlight the GOP alternative. The CBO has scored the Republican plan, and…shocker…it costs a whole lot less than the proposed Democrat takeover of 1/6 of our economy. ...

For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: CBO scores House GOP's health care alternative.
CBO and the staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) estimate that the amendment would reduce federal deficits by $68 billion over the 2010-2019 period; it would also slightly reduce federal budget deficits in the following decade, relative to those projected under current law, with a total effect during that decade that is in a broad range between zero and one-quarter percent of gross domestic product... ...
CBO Scores Boehner Amendment to HR3962
Angry Bear —
by Bruce Webb Last evening the CBO Director Blog announced the release of a score of the Boehner amendment: A Preliminary Analysis of a Substitute Amendment to H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act. The results are not impressive: (as always click to enlarge) The amendment is scored at reducing the deficit by $68 billion over ten years. I can't get the breakdown to add up (see page 4) but most of the savings is in the form of malpractice reform at $54 billion with further savings from some ...
GOP health-care reform cost: $61 billion, cut deficit $68 billion

... CBO director Douglas Elmendorf scored the new proposal from House Republicans on health-care reform and gave them plenty of ammunition to use against expansive and expensive Democratic plans for government takeovers. Their plan, which relies on interstate competition, HSAs, and tort reform, would only cost $61 billion in the first ten years of the plan — or slightly less than 6% of what Democrats plan to spend to overhaul the entire system: This evening, CBO released a preliminary analysis of a substitute amendment to H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act, ...

Republicans release their health care plan; it stinks
MNpublius.com —
House Republicans have finally produced their own health care plan, which will be introduced as an amendment to the Democrat’s health care plan sometime this week. It’s about time. Now Americans can finally decide which party’s plan makes more sense for the future of our country.
Here’s the Congressional Budget Office’s summary of its findings on the Republican health care plan:
CBO and the staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) estimate that the amendment would reduce federal deficits by $68 billion ...
Wait, What?

... $1.8 trillion dollars over ten years. Meanwhile, on the sane side of politics, the Senate Republicans have announced their plan, which the CBO's director—wait, he has a blog?—says will "cost" a mere $68 billion over the same period. ...

... Whether President Obama raised expectations is irrelevant. We The People can’t afford to keep paying ever-increasing health insurance premiums. Thus far, only the House GOP alternative lowers insurance premiums. That isn’t just my opinion. It’s the verdict that CBO has rendered: ...
