Sad, sad news: Dean Barnett is gone
neo-neocon —
... Weekly Standard, back when he was still anonymous. Since he was a Bostonian and a Red Sox fan, it was natural to correspond and then to meet, as I have with so many other New England bloggers. Not only was Dean a wonderful writer, he was a personable, warm, and witty guy who was generous in lending a hand to lesser-known writers like me.
He will be missed. Please send your condolences and prayers to his family.

In Memorial - Dean Barnett
Roger L. Simon —
... Standard and I thought he was headed for a big online media career. In fact, in a way he already had one - a guy who had emerged seemingly out of nowhere to become a very respected voice in conservative circles. And one with a sense of humor on top of that.
And now he’s gone, suddenly succumbed to the cystic fibrosis.
Requiescat in pace, Dean Barnett - dead at the age of 41. Whoever said life was fair?
His friend Hugh Hewitt has a wonderful appreciation here.
(What a day this is with two friends passing. See below.)

... Hugh Hewitt, who may have been the closest of all other bloggers to Dean, writes the following tribute . My friend and colleague Dean Barnett died today, and the world is a much poorer place for it. As anyone who listened to him on my radio show or read his work at Soxblog, here or at the Weekly Standard knows, and as everyone who had the great, great pleasure of knowing Dean will attest, Dean's combination of sparking intelligence and enormous good humor made him one fo the most memorable of friends. What too few people know, though, is what a kind, extraordinarily giving and ...

Dean Barnett, Already Missed
The Wide Awake Cafe —
All of us on the center right of the blogging world gasped with unbelief when we saw the sad news that Dean Barnett had died this afternoon. I knew that he had been ill but I had been praying and was hoping that no news was good news.
Now this evening we are grieving. I am grieving an individual who wrote like an angel, a man who never failed in his quest to write with enthusiasm, words that persuaded, exhorted and pinned any doubters against their ideological wall. And Dean did it with a smile on his face. I linked him and linked ...

Classical Values —
Dean Barnett, R.I.P. I'm sorry to read (via Hugh Hewitt ) that Dean Barnett has died. Hugh Hewitt remembers him, and his inspiring desire to live despite a battle with Cystic Fibrosis that shortened his life: Dean told me early in our friendship that his disease had forced him to deal with the possibility of living too short a life and that he thus threw himself into everything. This ferocious desire to live well and fully is what I will always tell people marked Dean Barnett. That and the love he had for his wonderful wife Kirstan and his family and friends. His extraordinary ...
