Polls Continue to Tighten
Stop The ACLU — ... making it a virtual tie at 44 to 43! Its gonna be a nail biter again. McCain has cut into Obama’s lead for a second day and is now just 1.1 points behind. The spread was 3.7 Wednesday and 6.0 Tuesday. The Republican is making headway with middle- and working- class voters, and has surged 10 points in two days among those earning between $30,000 and $75,000. He has also gone from an 11-point de?cit to a 9-point lead among Catholics. On a related note…it looks like Murtha is likely to go down in flames in PA.

Russell Leading Murtha!
Wizbang — The polls are showing Obama leading McCain comfortably, and expectations are that Dems will pick up a good number of seats in the House and Senate, but even that might not be enough to save Jack Murtha's sorry rear end from himself and his redneck, racist comments. Michelle Malkin has been leaked some new poll numbers that show William Russell leading Murtha 48-35 percent! I hope this one holds -- if for no other reason than to honor all those Marines who have been besmirched by Murtha and other Democrats who have called them killers and losers over the past four years. ...

Palin channels … Namath?
Hot Air » Top Picks — ... mind if I paraphrase him some in this state, his home state, Pennsylvania, with your help, we’re going to win this state. I guarantee it,” Palin said to wild applause. Public polling has Barack Obama leading outside of the margin of error, but a number of media reports now say that both campaigns see Pennsylvania as a toss-up.  The fallout from Joe the Plumber may be just one reason, a large reason but perhaps not the most important one.  The polling in John Murtha’s district has reversed after his comments about Pennsylvanians being racists, which has happened just over the ...

Optimism? Why Not?
Power Line — ... In Pennsylvania, it appears that Jack Murtha may be in deep trouble. We linked a day or two ago to a poll that showed his race with Bill Russell, a formidable conservative challenger, within the margin or error. Michelle Malkin says she's been "leaked" a poll by Dane and Associates that has Russell leading Murtha by a remarkable 13 points. I haven't seen this poll reported anywhere else, but when a Congressman calls his constituents "racists" and "rednecks," it shouldn't be a shock if they decide it's time for him to go. You can donate to Bill Russell's campaign ...

AP Attempts to Minimize Murtha's 'Racist' and 'Redneck' Comments
NewsBusters.org - Exposing Liberal Media Bias — ... Associated Press writer Kimberly Helfing attempted to portray Pennsylvania Congressman John Murtha's last-minute use of high-profile advisor Tony Podesta as "shoring up" his support, characterized accusations directed at residents of his district as only targeting "some" of them, and failed to mention Murtha's opponent until the fifth paragraph. The facts are that Murtha is not clearly ahead in the polls (ahead by not much here, behind by more here), that he may very well be behind in reality against challenger William Russell, and that ...
