IL-Sen: Burris Will Be Seated
Swing State Project —
From the pen of the Mighty and Fearless Harry Reid (and Dick Durbin):
The Secretary of the Senate has determined that the new credentials presented today on behalf of Mr. Burris now satisfy Senate Rules and validate his appointment to the vacant Illinois Senate seat. In addition, as we requested, Mr. Burris has provided sworn testimony before the Illinois House Committee on Impeachment regarding the circumstances of his appointment.
"We have spoken to Mr. Burris to let him know that he is now the Senator-designate from Illinois and as such, will be accorded all ...

Burris and Franken
Booman Tribune —
Now that the Senate has agreed to seat Roland Burris, all that remains is for Al Franken to prevail in court over the idiotic Norm Coleman . At that point, the Democrats will have 59 seats (57, plus Bernie Sanders and Joe Lieberman). What I don't understand is why Norm Coleman is being a brat about Franken's victory. He's not going to win in court and he's just causing mischief. Is he delusional or just petulant? Or is there some key reason to delay Franken?
Roland Burris is My Senator
FiveThirtyEight: Politics Done Right —
...and the same goes for 12,419,292 other Illinoisans, as the Democrats are about to seat him. What else is there to say? In our poll last week, a significant number of you -- about 40 percent -- saw this coming and predicted that Burris would be seated by mid-January. All right, here's one thing I'll say. Although seating Burris is modestly unpopular nationwide, there was nobody on either side of the aisle -- in the blogs, in the mainstream media, or in the Congress -- that was really ready to take ownership of the issue and lead some kind of ...
No One Could Have
Balloon Juice —
Predicted this:
Senate Democratic leaders today cleared the way for Roland Burris to be seated as a senator from Illinois, after his appointment by the state’s now impeached governor had turned into a weeklong spectacle shifting between the nation’s capital and the corruption scandal back in Illinois.
Now, it’s likely that Mr. Burris, 71 and a former state attorney general, may be sworn in to the Senate as early as later this week in a ceremony presided over by Vice President Cheney. His seating will bring the Democratic Senate ...

Senator Burris
The Reaction —
By Michael J.W. Stickings I still think Senate Democrats should have said no to Burris. He wasn't elected. Surely there should be room to block questionable appointees (by soon-to-be impeached governors looking to stick it to anyone and everyone). Could there not have been a special election? Still, now that's almost over -- that is, now that Burris is set to be sworn in -- I suppose I'm with Bowers: Hard to imagine that there will ...

I still think Senate Democrats should have said no to Burris. He wasn’t elected. Surely there should be room to block questionable appointees (by soon-to-be impeached governors looking to stick it to anyone and everyone). Could there not have been a special election?
Still, now that it’s almost over — that is, now that Burris is set to be sworn in — I suppose I’m with Bowers:
Hard to imagine that there will be any objections from Republicans. If anything, they will salivate over Burris as a potential 2010 ...
Make That Senator Burris
Rhymes With Right —
As predicted, the Democrats fold in the face of the Blagojevich gambit . The Roland Burris saga is over, as Democratic Senate leaders have accepted his credentials, clearing the way for him to be sworn in as the junior senator from Illinois by the end of this week. The decision ends an embarrassing chapter in Democratic politics and allows the Senate to move on after the Burris spectacle dominated the opening week of the 111th Congress In a statement issued after a 45-minute meeting between Senate officials and Burris lawyers, Senate Majority Leader ...
