Only Colin Powell knows whether his 11th hour decision to endorse B. Obama was based on race. The assertion is debatable, whether one finds it distasteul or not. My problem with Campbell’s cartoon effort ( or lack thereof) is that there is NO ATTRIBUTION. The portrait of Benedict Arnold was originally drawn by John Turnbull during the period of 1775-1819.  H.B. Hall later based an engraving on this portrait in 1865. Mr. Campbell has manipulated artwork that he glommed from the web and has passed it off as his own. Readers and editors expect editorial cartoonists to be controversial, but they have no appetite for borderline plagiarism and the fact that the copyright on the Turnbull portrait has lapsed is no excuse for Gordie Campbell’s intellectual improbity or his glaring artistic laziness.

The Racial Avalanche Continues
Hoffmania! — ... Gordon Campbell is a cartoonist in California, although he isn't aligned with any newspaper. (That's his angry kisser on the right there.) Still, he's carried by Daryl Cagle's political cartoon tracker on MSN. Here's his portrayal of Colin Powell. More disturbing is his ignorance of what he did. (Actually he's likely very aware of it.) Campbell believes through his cartoon that race is a deciding factor in Powell's endorsement, having rendered Benedict Arnold with dark skin, and captioning the ...

So what if it is about race?
Feministing — ... See, calling someone a traitor because they chose to support a candidate because they agree with his politics, thinks that his own party is using bad tactics and because he is the same race, well that makes him a racist, not a well reasoned human being.
