Matt Lewis: Chambliss's Victory Might Have Saved Norm Coleman, Too...
Townhall.com Blog's TownHall Blog —
Earlier I noted that it's possible for the Dems to "steal" the MN senate seat, because the senate gets to decide who "wins ". On the other side of the argument, however, is Michael Barone who makes a particularly noteworthy point : A consequence of Chambliss winning is that Al Franken’s importance as a possible addition to the Democratic Senate bloc diminishes... This is especially true because getting Franken in the Senate would entail Obama (and the Dems) expending political capital that could be better used on other things. What is more, getting Franken in ...

Chambliss’s Win in Georgia Shows Obama’s Diminishing Coattails
Saxby Chambliss has won the Georgia runoff by a 57.4 percent-to-42.6 percent margin with 97 percent of precincts reporting. That’s a margin of 14.8 percentage points, far greater than the 49.8 percent-to-46.8 percent margin that Chambliss led by in the November 4 voting, and it’s well above the 53 percent to 46 percent that was projected for the runoff on pollster.com.

... It's hard to imagine Obama, invested enough in his post-partisan image that he wouldn't risk it to stump for Martin, wanting the Senate to go to the mats for a 59th vote in what would surely be perceived as partisan overreach. Democratic senators up for reelection in 2010 will have to wonder whether gaining a foul-mouthed comedian through aggressive means will help their fortunes, especially when Chambliss' victory shows that Obama's coattails are shrinking: ...
Franken’s Hopes Look Dim. But He’ll Soldier On.

Matt Lewis pointed it out. So does Michael Barone.
I agree with them. Because Saxby guarantees the Democrats can’t get to 60 in the Senate, Al Franken’s victory becomes rather meaningless to a group of people who don’t much like him anyway. The odds decrease daily that the United States Senate will site Al Franken — especially considering he has never led during the recount despite his campaign’s statements to the contrary.
For Franken though, tempers are still flaring. ...

... , but now we can see what you think! Cast your vote for the biggest reason Saxby Chambliss added 12 points to his margin over Jim Martin in just 28 days, and keep checking back for the results. Michael Barone has his analysis — and as always, it’s a must read: The bottom line: The Obama campaign did a magnificent job of turning out black voters in rural and small-town counties in Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia for the November 4 election. But it was not able to replicate those results in the Georgia runoff. Black turnout pretty much matched white turnout in the inner ...
Franken's Senate Hope May Get Senate 'Nope'
Politics Daily —
... Franken Democrats in Minnesota, it seems, will stop at nothing in their quest for the 59th seat, not even the will of the people. However, if the Wall Street Journal, Michael Barone, and a growing conventional wisdom are correct, when Mr. Franken comes crying to the Senate, they just might not be there for him. If there really is a new, post-partisan push in D.C., putting a stop to Franken's whine monster would certainly be the test of it. Harry Reid's Senate might just tell Al Franken "nope," and that would be both good and smart; and that's the truth ...
