CNN Falls to Last Place in Cable News
Politics Daily —
... When the October cable news ratings are finalized Monday afternoon, CNN will finish fourth and last place for the first time, the New York Times' Media Decoder blog reports. The network that pioneered the 24-hour news format has trailed the Fox News Channel and MSNBC before, but is now also being beaten by its sister network, CNN Headline News. ...
CNN Now Fourth In Prime Time
The Daily Dish | By Andrew Sullivan —
In a sign that all cable news is becoming talk radio, CNN slips behind even its own HLN in peak hours. This blog is now competitive on a daily basis with some prime time cable news shows in terms of total audience. At some point, blog readerships will eclipse CNN's at this rate. In some cases, that has already happened. ...
CNN drops to 4th in prime-time
Michael Calderone's Blog —
Last May, I wrote on CNN's ratings troubles in prime-time, after being topped by MSNBC during the hours of 8pm to 11pm.
But for the month of October, CNN was beaten by not only MSNBC in the 25-54 demo, but also its sister network, HLN. Fox News remains the dominant cable news network, and will easily hold onto the number 1 spot.
The Times Bill Carter reports on the latest numbers, which will be finalized this afternoon. While CNN has lost before to MSNBC and HLN, there are some notable firsts in how poorly some of the network's ...
CNN in Free Fall -- By: Jonah Goldberg
The Corner on National Review Online —
From the NYT:
CNN, which invented the cable news network more than two decades ago, will hit a new competitive low with its prime-time programs in October, finishing fourth - and last - among the cable news networks with the audience that all the networks rely on for their advertising. The official monthly numbers will be finalized at 4 p.m. Monday and will include results from Friday. CNN executives conceded that will not change the competitive standing for the month. CNN will still be last in prime time. That means CNN’s programs were behind ...
"What The?" Monday Roundup

Boy, howdy—I sure did go MIA today. Sorry about that!
Quickly, the biggest news items I saw today are:
* A double "Ha ha!" combination: CNN's ratings continue to implode, along with the entire newspaper industry. Gee, both groups are almost exclusively liberal. I wonder why in the world they're having such tough times?
* Another Democrat explains why Creigh Deeds is completely unelectable. To my Democratic-leaning friends here in Virginia:—Thank you very much for nominating a moron!
* Another "enlightened" columnist ...
CNN Fail
Oliver Willis —
... CNN is now in fourth place, losing to Fox, MSNBC, and even its sister station HLN. CNN could stake out a place as the fact checker to liberal opinion on MSNBC and right wing opinion on Fox, rather than its current state of pablum… but I doubt they will. ...

... patients." * There are too many institutions that are too big to fail. Policymakers are poised to consider solutions to the problem. * Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.), a strong supporter of a public option, is satisfied with the opt-out compromise. * On a related note, A.L. has an interesting item about the larger political implications of the opt-out approach. * The newspaper industry is in very, very deep trouble . * CNN should not be slipping into fourth place in primetime among the cable news networks. * Forcing women to pay higher ...
CNN Comes In Last
Taylor Marsh —
... The network that literally invented cable news just came in dead last in ratings.
The official monthly numbers will be finalized at 4 p.m. Monday and will include results from Friday. CNN executives conceded that will not change the competitive standing for the month. CNN will still be last in prime time.
That means CNN’s programs were behind not only Fox News and MSNBC, but even its own sister network HLN (formerly Headline News.) That was the first time CNN had finished that poorly with its prime-time shows. ...
Nielsen: Fox News ratings up almost 10% since WH declared war

... at 8 p.m. on CNN in the demo. (Worse, perhaps: Anderson Cooper is getting beat by … re-runs of Nancy Grace .) CNN’s made a noble attempt at semi-objective coverage in primetime while FNC and MSNBC resort to bombthrowers, but this experiment must be near its end. I wonder what they’ll end up putting in the 8 p.m. slot. Some sort of updated version of “Crossfire,” perhaps, with a new, younger, edgier cast? Andrea Tantaros versus Meghan McCain on a nightly basis? I’d watch. Here’s a quote to ponder. Remember, when they say “last,” they mean out of four networks — CNN, Fox, ...

CNN hits last place – yes, even behind the icky MSDNC.
And for Fox News? A major jump since the WH started attacking them (via Newsbusters):
Gee, do you think Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch love being The White House’s least-favorite news channel? Duh, of course they do.
Here’s a chart comparing network ratings from the period 9/28/2009-10/11/09, which is when Anita Dunn slammed the network, and the two weeks after that (”post feud”). ...

The New York Times reports on CNN’s travails.

... lineup except the 3am show Red Eye, which is still pulling in more viewers than MSNBC's premier morning show, Morning Joe. Meanwhile, CNN and MSNBC recorded their lowest ratings of the year through the first three weeks of this month. In particular, CNN is in the midst of what looks to be a total ratings collapse. CNN's average daily viewership among all households through the first twenty one days of October was just over half of what it was in January. The former cable heavyweight now ranks dead last among cable news networks - behind even its sister network Headline News.
CNN: Missing Dobbs
Real Clear Politics - TIME.com —
Could things get any worse for CNN? Apparently, the answer is 'yes.' The pioneering and once dominant leader in cable news has been hemorrhaging viewers for some time and earlier this year suffered the indignity of slipping to last place among cable news networks , behind even its sister network Headline News. Now come the November Nielsen ratings showing that the surprise departure of Lou Dobbs has cost the network even more viewers. After Dobbs announced his resignation on air on Wednesday November 11, CNN suffered a 25% decline among all viewers in Dobbs' 7pm time slot, and ...
