VA Gov Poll: McDonnell +11
Real Clear Politics - TIME.com —
With just over one week to go before election day, a new Washington Post poll of the Virginia Governor's race shows Republican Bob McDonnell leading Democrat Creigh Deeds by double digits, 55 to 44. The eleven point lead is a slight improvement for McDonnell versus the WaPo's last survey three weeks ago showing McDonnell with 53% of the vote to Deeds' 44%. Overall, McDonnell now leads Deeds in the ...

Republican Bob McDonnell builds 11 point lead over Creigh Deeds in Virginia gov race: New poll
Top of the Ticket —

Despite energetic campaign efforts by both President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, plus extra spending by the Democratic National Committee, the Washington Post reports this afternoon that McDonnell has a majority of likely-voting Virginians, 55 to 44, over Democrat rival R. Creigh Deeds. ...
McDonnell by 11
Tertium Quids —
The WaPo poll finally sees the light of day and it finds Bob McDonnell leading Creigh Deeds 55-44 percent. That's the good news for Mr. Deeds: The poll shows that Deeds has been unable to shift the dynamics of a race that in recent weeks appeared to be slipping away from him. Despite a concerted effort to reverse a widespread voter perception that his campaign has been largely negative, more than six in 10 in the new poll see the Democrat as running a mainly negative effort. By contrast, most see McDonnell's campaign as a predominantly positive one. There's not much here to ...

On Friday, apparently the campaigns of America celebrated my mother's birthday (Happy Birthday, Mom) by giving me more time to call her...by making absolutely no news whatsoever. Today, however, was a little bit different. Almost a dozen polls were released today, as well as a heaping helping of campaign news. A veritable buffet plate of political news, so let's get right to it: NJ-Gov: Suffolk Gives Corzine Big Lead, PPP Teases Otherwise Anyone looking for definitive tea leaves from the polling data in the tight race for Governor of New Jersey may find it wanting this week. It looked like we had a definitive move this morning, when ...

The Presidential Planner
Political Punch —
Previous | Main The Presidential Planner October 27, 2009 7:00 AM From Sunlen Miller The President starts his day in the Sunshine State again today. The President will give a speech announcing $3.4 billion of Recovery Act funding for Smart Grid technology use that will “modernize the nation’s electricity grid, enhance reliability, promote efficiency and allow for the integration of clean, renewable energy -- all while helping consumers save money,” the White House says. Through the project administration, officials hope to create or save hundreds of thousands of jobs and ultimately reduce U.S. electricity consumption by 4 percent by 2030. The President will make the ...
Bye, Bipartisanship: Reid’s gambit forces centrists to choose sides
The Note —
ABC News’ Rick Klein reports: There won't be a press conference to announce its victory. There are too many lobbyists to thank, anyway. Nearly a year after the American people voted to kill it, partisanship not only still lives -- it thrives, and it may never have been healthier than at this moment. The White House hesitancy to go this route on health ...
The Early Word: The Opt Out
The Caucus —
The opt out is in. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced on Monday that the health care bill he plans to bring to the Senate floor will include a government-run insurance option that allows individual states to remove themselves from the plan. But even with that decision made, the tricky work is far from complete for Mr. Reid. As The Times’s Robert Pear and David Herszenhorn report ...
State of the Races
Ace of Spades HQ —
State of the Races One week to go and here are the latest polls I could find on some important races. Virginia Governor: Robert McDonnell (R) vs. Creigh Deeds (D) . The WaPo editorial staff must be gnashing their teeth after their absolute failure to sink McDonnell with another "macaca" moment. He's up 11 with likely voters: 55 percent to 44 percent. (Is there not a single undecided likely voter in Virginia?) New Jersey Governor: Chris Christie (R) vs. Jon Corzine (D) . After an alarming poll over the weekend showing Corzine in the lead and outside the margin, Rasmussen's latest release has this race back in familiar territory. Christie is up 3 among likely voters at 46 ...
The Obama referendum will have to wait
Political Animal —
THE OBAMA REFERENDUM WILL HAVE TO WAIT.... Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) argued the other day that of all the various races this year, the Virginia gubernatorial contest will be a " referendum " on the Obama presidency. Actual Virginians don't seem to agree . Republican Robert F. McDonnell carries a double-digit lead over Democrat R. Creigh Deeds in the final week of the campaign for Virginia governor, according to a new Washington Post poll. [...] Seven in 10 Virginia voters say their views of President Obama, who is scheduled to campaign Tuesday with Deeds in Norfolk, will not be a factor in their choice for governor. The rest are about evenly divided between those who say ...
No Good Deeds Go Unpunished
The Atlantic Politics Channel —
Even more evidence that something went very very wrong with the Democratic gubernatorial candidate in Virginia:
The Washington Post notes that Bob McDonnell "has overtaken Deeds as the one more trusted to handle issues of special concern to women (7 points)."
Maybe Deeds should run a few more "thesis" ads...
McDonnell's strength
Ben Smith's Blog —
A remarkable bit from the new Washington Post poll showing McDonnell with a commanding lead:
McDonnell "has overtaken Deeds as the one more trusted to handle issues of special concern to women" and now leads in that area by 7 points.
That's thesis and all.
McDonnell Even Leads Among Women
Taegan Goddard's Political Wire —
The Washington Post notes that Bob McDonnell (R) has overtaken Criegh Deeds (D) as "the one more trusted to handle issues of special concern to women (7 points)." Apparently, news of McDonnell's master's thesis in which he described working women and feminists as "detrimental" to the family didn't seem to matter much.
President Obama Stumps For Creigh Deeds In Virginia
Politics Daily —
Filed under: Endorsements, Democrats, Republicans, Barack Obama, Polls, CampaignsFor the second time in three months, President Obama went to Virginia to campaign for Democrat Creigh Deeds, who is trailing Republican Bob McDonnell in the race to replace term-limited Gov. Tim Kaine. Obama reminded the crowd at Old Dominion University in Norfolk that he knows what it's like to be an underdog and nobody should count Deeds out. "I don't believe in can't, I don't believe in giving up," said Obama, who won Virginia last year with 52 percent of the vote. "I am absolutely confident that we can, if you are willing to work in ...

Virginia -- not "blue" after all
Power Line —
As John wrote earlier today, Republican Bob McDonnell is cruising to victory in his race against Creigh Deeds for governor of Virginia. The latest Washington Post poll has McDonnell up by 11 percentage points (55-44). Other polls show a lead of around 15 points, which is where the Post had the race in August.
The fact that Deeds is polling about the same now as he did in August tends to undercut the Obama administration's claim that Deeds' struggles are the result of a poor campaign. If the campaign were so bad, we would expect Deeds to be doing worse in the polls than he was a few months ago. As I've said before, some of Deeds' campaign decisions did ...

Your one stop pundit shop. Andrew Kessinger wants real action taken on gay rights: It is wrong to ask gay Americans to wait until every future war is won, every societal ill is treated and every business is booming before being granted equal protection under law; it is equally disturbing to think that today, one must be a victim of a hate crime before receiving such consideration. Is it too much to ask for more, sooner rather than later? Robert Kagan is still peddling war with Iran. E.J. Dionne has a suggestion for Democrats and Republicans: Memo to Democrats: You ...
The Hype Behind NJ and VA Gubernatorial Races
Blake's Think Tank —
This post is for the one-one hundred of one percent of you that give damn about what happens in the New Jersey and Virginia gubernatorial races tomorrow night. I dabbled in New Jersey politics more than a decade ago working on a statewide race that in the closing hours broke for the Republicans. The extent of my involvement in the campaign between Gov. Jon Corzine and Chris Christie is two-fold. First,i watched several of the ads where it was alleged that Mr. Corzine invoked Mr. Christie’s weight as a reason he’s unfit for the job. I’ve never known a grown man use the “you’re fat” insult in a political campaign, so ...
