... and Obama coming to take your guns--laughed nervously and cut off the Strangelovian colonel. However, questions remain: Does this mean there'll be no Chinese tea at the April 15, anti-tax Tea Parties that Fox has been heavily promoting ? (Beck will be "reporting" live from...the Alamo.) What does this episode tell us about the quality of the "experts" Beck invites on his show? Exactly how did a ...
Media Matters Documents FOX News' Political Boosterism Re Tea Party Protests
News Hounds —
Media Matters has issued a lengthy and damning report documenting the many ways in which "fair and balanced" FOX News is actively promoting the tea party protests, even urging viewers to get involved with them, while packaging them primarily as protests about the Obama administration's economic policies.
Media Matters' report states: Fox News has in dozens of instances provided attendance and organizing information for future protests, such as protest dates, locations and website URLs. Fox News websites have also posted information and publicity material ...

... escalate.
The thought of doing physical harm to fellow Americans is distasteful to me, as it should be to all American patriots and lovers of liberty. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations evinces a design to reduce Americans under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government... and generally such government doesn't just walk away peacefully.
This is on DontGo's website. This is scary shit. This is what Fox News is promoting, encouraging, and, in the case of FNC's Glenn Beck, fund-raising for. ...

... operation. And here she is again saying the same thing. Notice how she scampers away like a scared rat when someone asks her if she has anything close to, you know, proof. Steve Benen’s on the same kick and he quotes Oliver Willis who put on his deerstalker cap and came up with, you guessed it, exactly the same conclusion . Here’s Think Progress reading from the script as well. And Michael Stickings quoting Andrew Sullivan . Of course, Media Matters had to have its big alleged expose, too . I think I’ve detected a theme here, haven’t ...
John Wellington Ennis: On Teabags and Douchebags
Politics on HuffingtonPost.com —
The Teabagging movement appears to be a dart board of broad complaints about American government today, insidiously co-opted by the Republican party, FOX News and corporate lobbyists.
It's like the venerable blog, Hot Chicks with Douchebags, devoted to otherwise attractive females attaching themselves to appalling macho cheese. The mantra of the site is, "What is she doing with him?"
Somewhere in the Tea Party outrage are some desperate people asking worthwhile questions you can relate to, such as "Where the fuck is all this ...
O'Reilly Says Fox Only Aggressively “Covered” the Tea Party Protest (Like Real Journalists)

... going to wake up and start fighting the fascism that seems to be permeating this country?” Who does he think he is, Rick Santelli?
But old Bill, he had a different agenda, and despite the fact that pictures (in this case videos) paint a thousand words, defensively stated that Fox News only saw it as a “major story” and Fox simply promoted the fact that they were going to “cover” the story aggressively. Uh, Bill, Glenn Beck planned to fund-raise for 'em. The network aggressively promoted them. Neil Cavuto and Fox Contributor Michelle Malkin were issuing red ...
O'Reilly Brags About Tea Party Ratings, Discards Journalistic Integrity
News Hounds —
... “There is no question these protests were newsworthy but they deeply offended the committed left-wing press . . .the uber-liberal New York Times buried the Tea Party story on page 16 and grossly underestimated the crowds involved . . . the Wall Street Journal ran the story on page 3, USA Today also on page 3.” Well, now, Bill, to be fair, you have to give these guys a break because they, unlike Fox News, were not de facto co-sponsors, attendees, champions, cheerleaders and groupies of these ...
Fox News Watch doesn’t disclose Pinkerton’s role in hyping tea parties

... the protests as “FNC Tax Day Tea Parties.” During the lead-up to the April 15 protests, tea-party organizers also used the planned attendance of several Fox News hosts to promote their protests. Indeed, Goldberg noted: “I think there,s a perfectly legitimate criticism against Fox for not so much the coverage but the commercials promoting, you know, the coverage, which was, in effect, advertisements for these things. But this was all transparent; people knew that’s what Fox was doing.” From the April 18 edition of Fox News Watch : JON SCOTT (host): This week on Fox News ...
Were the Tea Parties Really a Libertarian Thing?
FiveThirtyEight: Politics Done Right —
... And yes, before anyone asks, I do think the tea parties were a relatively "authentic" display of conservative grassroots activism. Certainly, it helps the cause when you have FOX News advertising on your behalf. But FOX News can't get you up off your couch, nor -- when a protest is being conducted simultaneously in several hundred different locations -- can they tell you exactly where to go. For that, you'd have had to talk to your neighbors or log onto the Internet, which is what the tea-partiers did. ...
