Final thought
Something to look at in the next couple of days -- turnout sucked . Not all ballots are in, but we're currently at almost 119M for the night. We had 122M vote in 2004. So we may get to 2004 levels. A quick spot check confirmed numbers down in many states (e.g. CA, NY, OH, etc). Could it be ...

Around the Web with President Obama
The Latest on Air America — The New York Times editorial says it all, here's why we got what we deserve, and here's to a better tomorrow. Nice to be able to remember, and not just struggle to imagine, a better day in our great nation. Keeping it real(ly gritty) is Markos Moulitsas at Daily Kos who points out that voter turnout has not yet reached 2004 levels. What he does not see (hehe) is that Republicans stayed home.  You can watch the victory speech below (there's more news below the video player): Check out the headlines around the world, from ...

MORNING READ
News — ... Rubin . Those GOP wins and the modest Democratic gain in the House would send the message that America doesn't want too much change, Rubin writes. With the 2008 national voter turnout likely falling short of the 2004 total of 123 million Americans, this year's story is that the electorate's composition has shifted from being more Republican to being more Democratic, writes Contention's John Podhoretz . Turnout sucked, perhaps because Republicans stayed home, writes kos . FROM THE BLOGS: [image] Okay, Now Govern - Jonah Goldberg, The Corner [image] Sour ...

Simple Question: Was Turnout Historically High or Just Flat?
Open Left - Front Page — I'm hearing contradictory reports on this issue. Kos said last night that turnout sucked. Paul reiterated that view earlier today. Meanwhile, Politico and others are reporting that turnout percentage will set a modern era record. I don't see their evidence for this, they just say it will exceed 130 million. So far, CNN shows about 119.5 million votes for Obama and McCain combined. Presumably there's another million or two for third party candidates. I wrote about turnout two days ago and you can see a chart of turnout percentage history here. So ...
