Obama’s plan for energy independece by year 13,316

Via Powerline , Just for fun, I did the math. Properly inflating your tires can improve gas mileage by 3%… How does this stack up against “all the oil that they’re talking about getting off drilling?” ANWR: 10 billion barrels Outer Continental Shelf: 18 billion barrels (estimated; the actual total is undoubtedly much higher, since exploration has been banned) Oil shale: 1 trillion barrels So, on the above assumptions, it would take only 11,308 years of proper tire inflation to equal “all the oil that they’re talking about getting off drilling.” No doubt that my great, ...
OBAMA AND INFLATION - EGOS AND TIRES

Obama mistakenly argues we can save more gas than we can get by drilling merely by better inflating our tires and better tuning our cars. ...
No matter how you compute it, this is just silly

... that could be recovered from the Outer Continental Shelf, not even including ANWR. And that's assuming that all the cars today have poorly inflated tires and we'd get 100% improvement once everyone heard The One's advice to get our tires inflated. Of course, it's a good idea to get your tires properly inflated, but it's just ludicrous to compare this to the oil we could get by increasing our own domestic drilling. John Hinderaker uses some different assumptions and reaches the following conclusions. Americans drive approximately 2,880 billion miles per year. If we average 24 ...

... Obama replied smartly, "Never!" And grinned broadly. Sounded more like a 20-year-old than someone about to turn 47 next week. Timesman Andrew Malcolm adds: What's Obama done for D.C. change since arriving? What's Obama done for reform back home within the historically monolithic and corrupt Chicago Democratic machine, where some up-and-comers are sent off to Congress for seasoning before advancing to the big-time of City Council? Inquiring minds already know the answer: Nothing. And Powerline's John Hinderaker essays ...

I’m beginning to wonder if there has ever been a less serious candidate for President run by a major party.
Powerline has a great dismantling of this fatuous claim. Bottom line — 11,308 years of proper tire inflation will result in the same savings in oil consumption as would be produced by drilling in ANWR, on the outer-continental shelf, and recovery of oil from shale in the Rockies.

...is the title of a John Hinderaker post over at Power Line:
John runs the number on Obambi’s statement, and figures that it would only take ”11,308 years of proper tire inflation to equal ‘all the oil that they’re talking about getting off drilling.’ “
Wow! 11,308 years! That would run well into the second term of Obambi’s 57 state Presidency!

Powerline's John Hinderaker is a litigator, and so he pays close attention to assertions and the evidence --or lack thereof-- behind them. He's also careful to keep focused on the original assertions made by Obama concerning tire inflation and its impact. His first post on Obama's first "inflated tires" assertion is here. It notes that Obama's first assertion was that if we all had properly inflated tires we could save "all the oil that they are talking about getting off drilling." ...
