Hugh Hewitt: Senator Cornyn's Opportunity
Townhall.com Blog's TownHall Blog — The expected retirement of Ohio Senator George Voinovch combines with the retirements of Missouri's Kit Bond, Florida's Mel Martinez and Kansas' Sam Brownback to offer National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn an opportunity to recharge the NRSC's volunteer/donor base. The chance to recruit young conservatives for four key seats with rhetorical skills and a deep commitment to Reagan conservatism is a chance to energize the base quickly. An NRSC fund to defend the seats has to established and segregated from other funds, just as one needs to be established for challengers to Democrats seats. The NRSC is still recovering from its disastrous ...

Hugh Hewitt: On the Senate GOP Retirements
Hugh Hewitt's TownHall Blog — The WaPo's Chris Cillizza is a welcome guest on my program, but sometimes I wonder about his GOP sources. Today's column is a perfect example. Chris seems to believe that the GOP is reeling from the four announced retirements in the Senate in anticipation of the 2010 cycle: Kansas' Sam Brownback, Florida's Mel Martinez, Missouri's Kit Bond and Ohio's George Voinovich. More retirements might come along, he muses, and he quotes McCain advisor Fred Davis as saying the spate of retirements "makes an already tough situation even worse." Chris never notes that more than a few GOPers are happy to reload in '10 with young and energetic replacements for long-serving ...

Hugh Hewitt: ReadTheStimulus.org, Amaze.fm and GOP 5.0
Townhall.com Blog's TownHall Blog — Most of today's program will be devoted to the House Democrats' fiscal suicide bill, otherwise known as an alleged stimulus plan. A bunch of worthies have sponsored ReadTheStimulus.org so you can search the bill's text for yourself. Perhaps you too have qualified for a federal bailout and just don't know it. I'll also be playing the Amaze.fm song of the week . If you are a singer/songrwriter, be sure to upload your tunes this weekend. I tried to book four different Republican leaders on the Hill today to talk about the stimulus package, and none were available. The idea that the GOP doesn't have a Friday-Saturday-Sunday response room staffed with ...
