... Despite the Governor's prohibition against revenue enhancement, a number of Senators introduced bills yesterday to do just that, as well as protect certain kinds of funding from cuts. After meeting with Legislators yesterday, Richardson announced that he would agree to education cuts of 1.5%, with a goal of protecting teacher salaries, among other things. Similar revenue enhancing bills are being taken up by the House Rules Committee this morning, and similar results as to their germaneness are expected. At least for right now, Governor Richardson is in the driver's seat on matters of raising additional revenues.
