‘The Architect’ Breaks Down 2008 Battleground States
PoliPundit.com —
‘The Architect’ Breaks Down 2008 Battleground States‘The Architect’ of President Bush’s presidential campaigns, Karl Rove, takes a look at the 2008 presidential election and pinpoints 4 major battleground states, courtesy of the Wall Street Journal : Presidential campaigns ultimately come down to who can win 270 Electoral College votes. With most states favoring one candidate or the other, this year’s contest could come down to a few battleground states. Based on visits this past week with party leaders and old pros, it’s clear that Barack Obama will focus on Colorado and ...

... earned a McCain Point or two for the condescension in calling Obama's candidacy a "novelty." John McCain shows some comedic talent with this opening in his Wall Street Journal op-ed: For anyone who thought that stark international aggression was a thing of the past, the last week must have come as a startling wake-up call. With more than 150,000 U.S. troops still in Iraq, yeah, that was quite a wake-up call. Karl Rove, while representing all that is evil in the world, still manages to write a dull column ...

Townhall.com Blog's TownHall Blog —
Election guru Karl Rove says the 2008 presidential election will be decided by the voters in Colorado, Virginia, Michigan and Ohio. Here's the readers digest version: Rove says Colorado is likely to go to Obama (9 electoral votes), Virginia favors McCain just a bit (13 votes) and Michigan (17 votes) and Ohio (20 votes) could go either way. McCain could be competitive in Michigan (my home state) by focusing on Reagan Democrats and soft Republicans in the eastern part of the state, including Detroit. Rove says McCain's call for more drilling and nuclear energy will work with ...
Rove Sees Four Battlegrounds
Taegan Goddard's Political Wire —
Karl Rove says Colorado, Virginia, Ohio and Michigan will be the true battleground states in the presidential election. "Other states will see serious competition, including Florida,
Pennsylvania, Nevada, New Hampshire, Missouri and Wisconsin. But
Colorado, Virginia, Michigan and Ohio are likely to be the center of
the action. To win, Mr. Obama needs to pick up 18 electoral votes more
than John Kerry received, meaning Mr. Obama must carry Colorado or
Virginia and add another small state to his column. If Mr. McCain
carries Michigan as well as Ohio, it would make Mr. ...
Karl Rove’s electoral college math

Karl Rove’s got an interesting piece up in the WSJ today that focuses on what he believes are going to be the four battleground states that will determine who becomes our next president: Colorado, Virginia, Michigan, and Ohio. It’s good reading for Electoral College junkies who are paying more attention to state polls than national polls. In the piece, he also talks about what both McCain and Obama will need to do in those states in order to have a good shot at winning them.
I say Viriginia and Ohio will go to McCain (in spite of the ...

Karl Rove writes for the Wall Street Murdoch (amazing collection of propaganda today) instead of showing up for his Congressional subpoena, again. Four to watch
Power Line —
Karl Rove argues that the presidential election probably will come down to four key states: Michigan, Ohio, Colorado, and Virginia. Rove provides valuable insight into the political dynamics of each state. President Bush carried three of these four states in 2004 (all but Michigan). However, his margin in Ohio was small, and the Democrats have surged in Colorado and Virginia since 2004. To win Michigan, McCain will have to run substantially better than Bush did in 2004; to win Ohio he will have to run about as well. On the surface, both scenarios seem a little bit unlikely, ...
Poll: McCain Takes One-Point Edge In Colorado

More electoral calculus
Stubborn Facts —
Karl Rove sees four key battleground states. Obama wants to win Colorado and Virginia, but the interesting thing is that if McCain could pull Michigan out of the bag, that gives him a lot of breathing room. Assuming 2004 as a baseline, winning Michigan would compensate for the potential loss of Colorado and virginia to Obama (in that scenario, McCain beats Obama 281-257, compared to Bush's 286-252 victory over Kerry). Moreover, while Rove notes that, hitherto, "[n]o Republican has won the White House without winning the Buckeye State," winning Michigan would place McCain within striking distance of being able to absorb the loss of Ohio, too. Retaining the scenario ...

Will Obama Add Insult to Hillary’s Injury?
Pajamas Media —
The candidate's VP pick could spark a backlash. [image] Informed political observers have realized since June that Hillary Rodham Clinton won’t be Barack Obama’s running mate. As Obama prepares to announce his vice-presidential choice, however, it will be worthwhile to watch the reaction of the ill-informed and unobservant — which is to say, the independent “swing” voters who will ultimately decide the election. Especially for those swing voters who voted for Hillary in the Democratic primaries, it may come as a brutal shock to learn that the former First Lady won’t be on the ticket in November. The shock will be amplified when those voters learn that Obama’s choice ...
