Hullabaloo — Old Faithful by digby I like Chris Cilizza. But every once in a while he writes something that unwittingly implies that he's been asleep for about 15 years, or at least walking around with only one eye open. His post today is one of those times. Check out this headline: Is Rush Limbaugh the New Face of the GOP? He does acknowledge in the piece that Limbaugh is credited with being instrumental in creating the Republican majorities that began in 1994, so it's not like he's oblivious to Rush's influence. But ...

Booman Tribune —
"The party is in transition," said Ed Rogers , a Republican lobbyist and close ally of Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour. "Our leaders have not found their voice or direction....Limbaugh is filling a vacuum in a world that requires a constant media counter-point." Kind of says it all.
Obama on the Hill
Ben Smith's Blog —
... It's not a particularly novel tactic, but it places the House Republicans in an uncomfortable spot. As Chris Cillizza wrote in a very smart piece today, their party is in danger of being defined as pure, intransigent, Rush-Limbaugh-style opposition, and Obama's visit to the Hill may give their image a further shove down that road. ...

Limbaugh, the Face of the GOP

Chris Cillizza asks a qustion: Is Rush Limbaugh the New Face of the GOP? .
"The party is in transition," said Ed Rogers, a Republican lobbyist and close ally of Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour. "Our leaders have not found their voice or direction....Limbaugh is filling a vacuum in a world that requires a constant media counter-point."
While there is nearly unanimous agreement with Rogers's sentiment that Limbaugh is filling a void left by the departure of former President George W. Bush from the scene, whether that is a good or a bad thing remains a ...
uggabugga — ... for the opposition. That was followed by some truly inane commentary about the economy. (N.B. Limbaugh is unfamiliar with addition and subtraction.) It's clearly in Obama's interest to bring Limbaugh, and other right-wingers like Hannity and Coulter, up front and center, and make them the face of the Republicans - not just within party circles but in the eyes of the press. Today, in the Washington Post, we get a story that confirms this move, Is Rush Limbaugh the New Face of the GOP? We read: ... on Monday, White ...
Don't Blow It GOP
Riehl World View —
... This is dumb even by WaPo standards. And it's exactly the kind of headline that Obama wants. I hope more Republicans don't rise to the bait and get involved in the silly game this represents. Limbaugh may be the face of Conservative talk radio but he's that and not much more. I'm not suggesting he isn't often right or powerful with his Republican-voting audience, but entertainment and politics shouldn't mix to too large a degree. ...

Weekly Standard Blog —
... Chris Cillizza asks if Rush Limbaugh is the new face of the GOP. It's not a crazy question. When the leader of the free world singles someone out as the leader of the opposition, he goes a long way toward making it so. In the last few days, Obama and his advisers have done just that, holding Limbaugh out as a symbol of partisanship and an impediment to the change that some 63 percent of the country now expects from our new president. Why the President of the United States would want to pick a fight with a talk show host is not entirely clear, but it surely has ...
Are Republicans Starting To Hit Back At Limbaugh For Throwing ‘Bricks’ From ‘The Extreme Right’?
Think Progress —
... Some Republicans are even saying that Limbaugh is a negative influence on the party. Speaking to the Washington Post’s Chris Cillizza, former McCain adviser John Weaver called Limbaugh one of “the most controversial voices on the extreme right,” adding that it is dangerous if he is perceived to “speak for all members of the center/right movement.” ...
Sarah Palin in the eye of the beholder
RedState: Conservative News and Community —
Since the debut of SarahPAC yesterday, there’s been renewed speculation that Alaska Governor Sarah Palin intends to make a run for the White House, perhaps as early as 2012. If such a run is indeed in the cards, where will the pundits place her on the political spectrum? The answer to that question depends on which pundit you choose to believe.
Former John McCain senior staffer John Weaver, as quoted by Washington Post political blogger Chris Cillizza:
“The Democrats and the far left will do all they can ...

-By Warner Todd Huston [image] I am sick and tired of being sick and tired of Old Media people like columnist Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post and liberals like Pelosi and Obama who keep claiming that talk show host Rush Limbaugh is the only voice of the Republican Party. Imagine. A mere radio guy. Our voice! I am worn out with his bellicose talk of ...
