Is the stimulus bill good enough?
By Michael J.W. Stickings Krugman says no : By any normal political standards, this week's Congressional agreement on an economic stimulus package was a great victory for President Obama. He got more or less what he asked for: almost $800 billion to rescue the economy, with most of the ...

End The Honeymoon
tnr.com — There are many good things to say about the stimulus bill. But all in all, it wasn't... as good as it could be: It's probably too small and too skewed toward tax cuts, and particularly cuts for upper-income people who won't necessarily spend them. The ... (more) End The Honeymoon

I don't know if the stimulus bill is good enough.  It's been bastardized by the republicans.  There should be less tax cuts for the rich and more cash for the poor.  I want the bill to work, what else do we have?  Our economy is so deep in the toilet even a good stimulus will take a few years for a positive result to start to show.  What our leaders need to do is figure out we got to this point.  I dont believe for a moment that it was bad mortages.  If that's all it took for us to topple, we don't deserve to be americans.  It was greed and de-regulation that did us in.  I believe in free enterprise, but look around.....everything was being over priced without wages to match that growth.  Everyone was out for the dollar amoun they could get, damm everyone else.  Our system had to bottom out!

Any kind of stimulus bill that just invests money in long term projects like energy or education isn't going to give the economy the quick boost Obama says we need.  Nor will a bill that just expands healthcare.  There is very little actual stimulation, and some of the stimulation that was supposed to generate more home sales and car sales with tax credits has been cut dramatically by the Dems.

Not that it matters.  The economy will just recover on it's own within the next year or two, because that is how economic cycles work.

The stimulus might slow the recovery though.  It will certainly doom the future economy since, you kind of can't spend money you don't have.  After the collapse of all these mortgages and banks, the government should have realized that spending more money than you have doesn't work.  Pray for me as my generation tries to deal with the record setting deficits put on us by Bush and Obama.

I'll pray for you, but not because of a deficit.  I pray that your generation will learn to see the truth of the world of politics.  Obama did not put this on you.  Search the history, read the news papers and study the world around you.  Greed put us in this situation.  Our government knew what was going to happen when there was no regulation.  Why do you think the minimum wage is so low?  Why is it that when an airline looses a million dollars, they charge you for pillows?  Why is there a cost for taking your own money out of the bank?  Why are we charged $20.000.00 for a car that cost $500.00 to make?  Why every time we look around there is an outlandish charge for something that should be free?  Maybe your generation can put a stop to this type of stealing.  Maybe, your generation will find out that when a person earns an honest dollar, the system will stop taking $0.75 of that dollar.  One person cannot be blamed for our mess.  Spendthrift got us in this mess maybe spending will get us out, but it won't last....greed will always be with us.

Senate Approves Stimulus Bill
The Moderate Voice — It’s done: 60-38. (The Democrats, the two independents, and three Republicans — Specter, Collins, and Snowe — voted for it, as expected.) Once again, as in the House, Republicans put themselves squarely in opposition to the American economy and the American people. And as flawed as the bill is, at least something was done at this time of historic crisis.
