Sarah Palin
Chicago Boyz —
I am so happy about this.
She is everything McCain is not:
* young
* female
* pro-life (vocally, unlike McCain, who is actually sound on his voting)
* pro-gun (vocally, she recently bagged a moose!)
* pro-oil drilling in ANWR
* has executive experience (not much, but more than Obama and Biden)
* against taxes, government spending, and the culture of boondoggles in Alaska
Also, critically important, she is probably the only person who can reconcile both the traditionalist conservatives and the libertarian conservatives, where both ...

The Maverick Gets One Right

Who knew the crafty dog still had some surprises in him?
Actually, I'm not all that surprised, given how shrewd the McCain campaign has been the last few weeks. Their "celebrity" ad obviously got under Barack Obama's skin, the Saddleback forum showed a vast difference between his worldview and Obama's and now this - picking the one person who can unite the base and still allows him to maintain his Mavericky image.
Impressive.
Ed Morrissey does a nice job summing up the reasons why this was a good pick. I would add that the Palin pick has ...
Basic Incompetence From McCain
The Daily Dish | By Andrew Sullivan —
Marc files a dispatch on McCain's minimal vetting of Palin. All you can say from this - regardless of what happens with this Desperate Housewives subplot beginning to play out - is that McCain is more incompetent as an executive than Bush: As the Palin pick turns 72 hours old, McCain's campaign is learning as
much about her from the media and from Democrats as they are from what
minimal political preparation they had...

What McCain Didn't Know About Palin

... Ambinder lists the charges. McCain's campaign is learning as much about her from the media and from
Democrats as they are from what minimal political preparation they had.
They've bragged that Palin opposed the famous "Bridge to Nowhere," only to learn that Palin supported the project
and even told residents of Ketchikan that they weren't "nowhere" to
her. After the national outcry, she decided to spend the funds
allocated to the bridge for something else. Actually, maybe it's more
fair to say ...
