The media as the Ministry of Propaganda
Rathergate.com —
... , we note that the Washington Posts’s Howard Kurtz questions the media’s rush to boost the Obama Presidency into the most successful and important series of events in our lifetime. It hasn’t even begun, and: Perhaps it was the announcement that NBC News is coming out with a DVD titled “Yes We Can: The Barack Obama Story.” Or that ABC and USA Today are rushing out a book on the election. Or that HBO has snapped up a documentary on Obama’s campaign. Perhaps it was the Newsweek commemorative issue — “Obama’s American Dream” — filled with so many iconic images and such stirring ...

... May be a bad case of nitrogen narcosis from being so deep in the tank. Washington Post media critic Howard Kurtz marvels at the media’s post-election Obama profiteering and adoring sense of wonderment at the great accomplishment, and gives bias a considered, responsible and measured stamp of approval: Perhaps it was the announcement that NBC News is coming out with a DVD titled “Yes We Can: The Barack Obama Story.” Or that ABC and USA Today are rushing out a book on the election. Or that HBO has snapped up a documentary on Obama’s campaign. Perhaps it was the Newsweek ...

Y ou may have read this article by Howard Kurtz a couple of days ago. Kurtz is the Washington Post s media critic, and I saw his piece linked by Drudge . Very interesting piece, on the media s gushing treatment of President-elect Obama. Makes several good points. But what s missing is this, I believe: something elementary, and something important. The media are liberal (in the modern American sense, of course don t get me started . . .); Obama is liberal. Of course the media are nuts about him! If this could be admitted, I think life would be much sweeter, much easier. It ...

Hit & Run —
... in the form of a reprint from the first post-election paper. Coupled with Obama's recent audience-spiking appearances on 60 Minutes and The Daily Show, we are beginning to see a strange new trend: The liberal media temporarily reversing its long decline by hyping the liberal president. The second interpretation is somewhat less generous. Namely, the media is in full-on, unembarrassed (OK, maybe slightly embarrassed) gush mode. Connoisseurs of media bias will certainly have their hands full for at least the next six ...
