Former NRCC Chair Tom Cole Endorses Hoffman
Ace of Spades HQ —
Former NRCC Chair Tom Cole Endorses Hoffman As Drew quips, "Who cares? He's from Oklahoma." He doesn't have the easy familiarity with Candadian-border New York like former Royal Mountie/free-range syrup magnate Newt Gingrich does. THE WEEKLY STANDARD has learned that veteran and widely-respected Rep. Tom Cole (R, Okla.), former chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee and a member of the GOP Steering Committee and a Deputy GOP House Whip, will be endorsing Doug Hoffman in the NY-23 race. Meanwhile, the Washington Post says that sources close to "both" camps ...
The Establishment in NY-23
Ben Smith's Blog —
So at what point do we just say that Hoffman is the Establishment candidate in NY-23?
Bill Kristol has the latest news, and explains:
This is significant. [Former NRCC Chairman Tom] Cole is a conservative, but not a fire-breathing and bomb-throwing one. He'll say in his statement that one reason he's endorsing Hoffman is that he's the one Republican who can win next Tuesday.
Much of the coverage, including mine, of the race has set up a distinction between ...
Tom Cole Goes With Hoffman
RedState —
I leveled withering criticism at Tom Cole two years ago for what I thought were some seriously wrong decisions while chairing the NRCC, but I may have to take it all back.
He just endorsed Doug Hoffman.
Yeah, you read that right — Rep. Tom Cole, the former head of the National Republican Congressional Committee, just endorsed Hoffman over the establishment GOP’s pick.
Well done, sir. Now I feel guilty for being so harsh two years ago.
Is it time for Scozzafava to drop out?

... endorsing Hoffman flows ever onward . Why? It’s tempting to think they’re doing it purely out of spite, to try to kneecap the guy who dared oppose their handpicked candidate, but if they go down with Team Dede’s ship and Hoffman wins anyway, they’ll look like even bigger schmucks than they already do. I assume the answer is that, a la Gingrich, they don’t want to send a message to would-be third-party challengers next year that the GOP might support them over its own nominees if they manage to muster some critical mass of grassroots enthusiasm. That’s a ...
GOP Reps. Cole And Rohrabacher Back Conservative Party's Hoffman In NY-23
TPM Election Central —
... "Doug Hoffman is right on the critical issues facing America -- and he is the only Republican who can win this special election," said Cole, whose endorsement was initially reported by Bill Kristol. "For those reasons I have chosen to endorse Mr. Hoffman and my leadership PAC has contributed to his campaign. I look forward to working with Doug in Congress and welcoming him into the Republican Conference." ...
