Swing State Project —
The time is upon us.

9:29PM: In the comments, conspiracy posts some good county baselines. Basically, Obama only won Caddo here in November. So far, the 'Mouche is winning a few more counties, and running closer elsewhere. 49-48 for Fleming now.
9:25PM: 19 precincts reporting, and it's 50-48 Fleming.
9:24PM: 10 precincts in now, and Fleming is up by 52-46.
9:11PM: With just 5 of 640 precincts reporting, Fleming leads by 59-39.

Early Congressional Returns from LA-04 - Tied
Firedoglake —
Louisiana Secretary of State early election results show Democrat Paul J. Carmouche and Republican John Fleming in a close race, 48.44%-R to 48.07%-D with 302 of 640 precincts reporting.
This district was +19 McCain so a victory would be especially sweet.
In any case we forced the Republicans to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to defend a "safe" district.
More like this please.

RedState: Conservative News and Community —
LA Secretary of State results here: while the GOP candidate is ahead in both, LA-02 only has 22 of 492 Parishes reporting. LA-04 has it at48.5/47.9 Fleming/Carmouche with 304 of 640 reporting.
UPDATE, 10:07 PM: On the other hand, CNN is reporting 53/42 Cao/Jefferson with 16% of the vote in at LA-02, and 50/46 Fleming/Carmouche with 59% of the vote in at LA-04. ...
LA-04 Results Thread #2
Daily Kos —
RESULTS: LA SoS | Associated Press 10:53PM: Caddo has finished reporting and it's now 49-47 Carmouche. All the remaining votes are in Bossier Parish. If the current 58-36 margin for Fleming holds there, we might eke out a narrow win. 10:56PM: My back-of-the-envelope suggests a virtual tie (Carmouche +100 votes) if the oustanding Bossier precincts look like those already in - in other words, far too close to actually predict anything. Meanwhile, in LA-02, the Republican still holds a 54-42 lead. Craziness.

Time for a fresh new thread.
RESULTS: LA SoS | Associated Press
11:22PM (David): So LA-02 is D+28 (old PVI). There is no district that is as red as this one is blue - UT-03 tops out at R+26. This reminds me of IL-05 in 1994 (1990s PVI: D+11) - corrupt Dan Rostenkowski got beaten by the unknown Michael Flanagan, who got soundly thumped by Rod Blagojevich two years later. Hopefully whoever beats Cao in 2010 will be a bigger upgrade over Jefferson than Blago was over Rosto.
11:15PM: The AP calls it for Cao! LOL!

GOP Gains Louisiana Seat: 1st Vietnamese-American in Congress
The Next Right —
Congratulations to Congressman-elect Joseph Cao, who sent Dollar Bill Jefferson packing tonight, in a D+28 seat. The GOP can win when it runs everywhere. -Patrick
Louisiana's penchant for electing minority Republicans gains steam as Joseph Cao is projected to defeat Rep. William Jefferson in the New-Orleans based 2nd district. With 391 out of 492 precincts reporting, Cao is comfortably ahead 53-43. Cao will be the first Vietnamese-American elected to Congress. He is the third Asian-American Republican elected to the House (Saiki-HI, Kim-CA preceeded him). ...
Good morning, *Mister* Jefferson.
RedState: Conservative News and Community —
The results are in for LA-02, and it is 49.55% for Anh “Joseph” Cao and 46.82% for William J Jefferson. First things first: my apologies to Democratic voters in Louisiana’s Second District. I did not believe that enough of you would be willing to put aside your partisan affiliation to cast a meaningful vote against rampant corruption. The results have proven me wrong, and I am sorry for doubting your collective judgment. And let me be the first to remind the future Rep. Cao that his seat is a privilege, not a right: there are a lot of voters out there tonight who have taken a leap of faith in trusting that you will serve ...
You know, people do get the Rangel thing.
RedState: Conservative News and Community —
You just have to go out there and tell them about it (H/T: Instapundit):
Seriously. These folks get it. They know that their taxes are too high - and, more importantly, that these days you need to be an accountant or tax lawyer to file properly. They know that the people running things are isolated from the people with real jobs. And they know that there’s something seriously wrong with having four rent-stabilized apartments as your primary residence. I’ve worked in residential real estate in NYC; that’s not a scandal, that’s a calculated ...
