Steele: Obama 'Played the Race Card Beautifully'
News —
Steele: Obama 'Played the Race Card Beautifully' Former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele said President-elect Barack Obama "played the race card beautifully" on the campaign trail during a conference call with bloggers Friday afternoon. "The Obama campaign played the race card beautifully," Steele said, as reported by Matt Lewis of the conservative Townhall.com blog. Steele, who is an African-American, said that Republicans should not hold back in attacks against Obama "just because the President of the United States happens to be a Black man." Steele also indicated that he would have liked to have seen Sen. John McCain's (R-Ariz.) campaign ...

Whew! What a day - week, in fact. Thank goodness it’s over. Now it’s time to focus closely on my site design, which has really come together this week. Mucho thanks for the contributions that have come in over the last several days. For those who haven’t yet done so but would like to, please click on the tip jar on the left side column of this page. At this point, thanks to generous donations, my site design is paid for and hosting is taken care of up til June of next year, but it sure would be nice to get enough to pay for hosting for the rest of next year. Even $10 here and there goes a long way.

Michael Steele: McCain should have hit Obama on Wright

Michael Steele: McCain should have hit Obama on Wright posted at 8:30 pm on November 14, 2008 by Allahpundit Send to a Friend | printer-friendly So reports Matt Lewis , per Steele’s conference call this afternoon with bloggers. And that’s not the money part: Steele also warned that we shouldn’t “soft-pedal” our attacks on Barack Obama, “just because the President of the United States happens to be a Black man.” This, of course, presents the argument that Steele — an African-American — could be a more effective critic of Obama than could his white Republican colleagues. He added that “the Obama campaign played the race card ...
Steele Upbeat, Realistic In RNC Bid
Riehl World View —
Matt Lewis posts his take on a blogger conference call with Michael Steele to discuss his RNC bid. (with audio) Steele brought a strongly optimistic tone to his take on where the GOP stands, while also being realistic about its having a steep hill to climb. He advocated for adherence to core principles, better messaging and improved outreach, including Internet/blogger interaction among other elements required for a Republican resurgence.

11/17: Chairman Lieberman? Secretary Clinton?

November 17, 2008 11/17: Chairman Lieberman? Secretary Clinton? With less than 24 hours before Senate Dems decide by secret ballot whether or not to take away ex- John McCain surrogate/CT Sen. Joe Lieberman 's chairmanship of the Homeland Security committee, the netroots are making their final lobbying push . Senators who spoke out against Lieberman (such as VT Sen. Pat Leahy , VT Sen. Bernie Sanders , and ND Sen. Byron Dorgan ) were on the receiving end of considerable netroots praise this past weekend. Meanwhile, lefty bloggers are restating their various arguments for why Lieberman should ...
Matt Lewis: Michael Steele and Bloggers: A Steele Curtain or an Olive Branch?
Townhall.com Blog's TownHall Blog —
Michael Steele frequently reads blogs at 2 o'clock in the morning. ... At least, that's what he told me a few months ago during our first (and only) blogger conference call conversation. His interest in blogs rings true, inasmuch as he apparently spent an hour on the phone with blogger Rob Bluey , after Bluey endorsed another candidate for RNC chairman and wrote a post in opposition to Steele's election as RNC chairman. Unlike the Democrats, who in 2005 followed the lead of bloggers and elected Howard Dean chairman, the 168 members of the RNC seemed to pay little attention to the concerns of conservative bloggers, who were among Steele's ...
Silence from the RNC on Holder's "Nation of Cowards" Remark
Weekly Standard Blog —
Late Wednesday night, I emailed RNC spokesman Alex Conant to see if Chairman Michael Steele would be willing to comment on Attorney General Eric Holder's remark that America is a "nation of cowards" on matters of race.
Conant informed me Thursday that Chairman Steele was "traveling" and thus unable to comment. So I asked Conant if he could comment on Holder's remarks. I didn't get a response to that question on Thursday, nor to a followup email I sent last night.
Maybe Steele really is too busy to comment. But compare and contrast, as they say. The DNC immediately jumped all over Phil Gramm's "nation of whiners" remark. And the RNC ...
