Michelle Obama just got more popular than Barack.
Althouse —
According to this Gallup Poll. Not surprising, really: It is not uncommon for first ladies to be more popular than their husbands, in terms of either their favorable ratings or their job approval ratings. To illustrate, Laura Bush averaged a 71% favorable rating from 2001-2009, compared to George W. Bush's 56% average. Hmmm. I knew Laura was popular — what did she ever do to offend? — but it's interesting to see that Bush's overall average was 56%. He seemed so famously hated. ...

The Reaction —
... That's the percentage of people who look favorably upon our first lady, Michelle Obama. That's slightly higher than her husband who stills hold the favor of 69% of the people (despite turning America into a bastion of communist/socialist/fascist thought). With numbers like these it's clear, Rush, Sean, and Glenn need to pick up their game. ...

Ben Smith's Blog —
The newest Gallup numbers show Michelle Obama as more popular even than her husband, with a 72% favorable rating to his 69%.
Her transformation in the public eye is one of David Axelrod's great successes, and really a remarkable thing. She was, for a moment, a serious vulnerability for the campaign. She was the subject of her own set of hostile rumors, many centered on race: There was the imaginary "whitey tape" and the rumors about her (actually pretty dry) college thesis. She did herself damage with a comment about how her husband's success made her ...

America has not forgotten
Brilliant at Breakfast —
... The last reading on Bush's favorability that Gallup recorded during his presidency came in a Jan. 9-11, 2009, survey. At that time, 40% of Americans viewed him favorably and 59% unfavorably. However, this represented an unusual spurt in positive feelings toward Bush, possibly due to changes in media coverage of the embattled president as his term ended, or because of Americans' generally buoyant mood leading up to Inauguration Day. (Barack Obama's favorable reading in the same survey was also higher than in previous and subsequent polling.) ...
