dias912 "And after the past eight years, it's a bit much to stomach someone saying "just shut up and trust me, because I know better." " I totally agree.
I barely trust anyone to be able to govern this country anymore, let alone when i'm paying 40% of my income in taxes based on someone I'm supposed to have "faith" in. Where are the results?

Fun with Steve and Jane
AMERICAblog News| A great nation deserves the truth —
Jane Hamsher disagrees with Obama campaign deputy Steve Hildebrand about the direction of Obama's appointments. Steve points out that Obama is picking the best people, and he has chosen some excellent people, and clearly a true brain-trust (and that is change). But it does seem that no one from the progressive side of the party is getting any cabinet posts at all. And that's not a litmus test, or a desire to lurch the Obama administration to the far left (at least not as far what I'd like to see) - it's the simple desire to have a Cabinet that aspires to "look like America" ...

... enough. Having worked with former Senator Obama for the last two years, I can tell you, that isn’t the way he thinks and it’s not likely the way he will lead. The problems I mentioned above and the many I didn’t, suggest that our president surround himself with the most qualified people to address these challenges. After all, he was elected to be the president of all the people - not just those on the left.So there. Jane Hamsher says, "screw that": People on the left are not looking at Obama’s appointments ...
I’ll Be Patient
Balloon Juice —
I understand this, I really do:
People on the left are not looking at Obama’s appointments with a jaundiced eye because they think he needs to apply some liberal orthodoxy litmus test. They have legitimate concerns that people like Geitner, Summers and other Rubin acolytes created this mess, and it’s reasonable to ask why they’re being appointed to get us out of it. While some of us want to give Obama a chance to fulfill the promises he campaigned on and work with the staff of his choice in order to do so, we’d have to be a ...
The Middle Way
The Mahablog —
I say there is a vast middle way between brainless robo-cheerleading for the Obama Administration and declaring that the Obama Administration already has sold out progressive values and will be no better than a third Clinton term. I agree with Jane H. and John A. (objecting to Steve Hildebrand) that there are reasons to express concern about some of Obama’s cabinet choices.
The blogosphere in particular will, I hope, maintain some objective distance from the Obama Administration. This is not just to remind Obama of what we expect from him. ...

How Not to Stem Criticism From Obama’s Left Flank
Comments from Left Field —
Memo to Deputy Transition Director Steve Hildebrand: poking a beehive with a sharp STFU stick isn’t gonna stop the buzzing. It’s just gonna get your dumb ass stung.
David Sirota patiently explains why muzzling progressives isn’t the answer:
The reason the Republican Party and conservative movement were so successful [up until recently] was because they developed a symbiotic relationship. Specifically, the party apparatus knew that sustained conservative movement pressure on the party ...

"Surprised" Hildebrand Responds To Critics: "I Don't Regret Any Of It"
TPM Election Central —
... legitimate questions about what his cabinet picks could portend for the future direction of the administration, Hildebrand said: "You guys can do what you want. That was my opinion, not a directive."
He added that the criticism of the cabinet picks was substantively off base:
"I just don't see how you can generalize that the choices in his cabinet are not very far to the left," he said, citing Hillary and Tom Daschle.

The Sideshow —
Apparently, the Maryland cops have admitted that maybe they shouldn't be listing pacifist nuns and puppet-makers as terrorists. Glenn Greenwald has more on the way the press has been regurgitating the whispers they get from their friends in the CIA about how Obama needs to do what the CIA wants him to do. Jane says Obama's deputy is telling "the left wing of the party" to STFU, but Atrios still thinks there's a possibility that this is all in aid of doing what needs doing: "For years we've had Democrats railing against those crazy hippies as an ...
Obama Admin Tells Left to STFU
Flopping Aces —
... someone saying “just shut up and trust me, because I know better.”
There is a lot of speculation right now about what will happen with the 13 million member email list the Obama campaign built, and there is some talk of Hildebrand running an organization that manages it.
I wonder how long those membership numbers will hold up when any criticism of Obama is greeted with patronizing lectures and sneering condescension for its liberals?
