Um, what?
doubleplusundead —
Um, what? Behold, the greatest orator of our time , and perhaps, of all time: Obama, speaking to top executives of the Business Roundtable, expressed an optimistic vision and called for patience. Richard Parsons, chairman of beleaguered Citigroup Inc., asked if Obama could offer some help in a national battle "between confidence and fear." "A smidgen of good news and suddenly everything is doing great. A little bit of bad news and ooohh , we're down on the dumps," Obama said. "And I am obviously an object of this constantly varying assessment. I am the object in chief of this varying assessment." "I don't think things are ever as good as they ...

As The Obama Turns
Riehl World View —
Great, either Obama hasn't a clue what he really thinks. Or perhaps he ran so he could pull the world's largest ever stock scam over the next four years.
Q: Would you put it past him at this point?
Now you tell us: What do you know? The crisis is not as bad as we think! (DIRE EMERGENCY CANCELLED, comments Drudge). I feel better already! (this is more of that poor salesmanship at work) Talk about unsteady! ...
The Manipulator-Fearmonger-Deceiver in Chief
Wizbang —
This is something many of us predicted. All of a sudden Obama declares the economy is not as dire as feared. I just thought he would wait long enough to believably give credit to the stimulus bill. Confronting misgivings, even in his own party, President Barack Obama mounted a stout defense of his blueprint to overhaul the economy Thursday, declaring the national crisis is "not as bad as we think" and his plans will speed recovery. Challenged to provide encouragement as the nation's "confidence builder in chief," Obama said Americans shouldn't be whipsawed by bursts of either ...

THE EMILY LITELLA PRESIDENCY: Obama: Economic crisis ‘not as bad as we think’.
The “Object in Chief” Declares the Economy Isn’t So Bad After All.
The Sundries Shack —
Well, why didn’t he tell us this before he panicked the country into believing that dumping a couple of million bucks on his favorite activist groups and campaign donors would be a great idea? But Obama, speaking to top executives of the Business Roundtable, expressed an optimistic vision and called for patience. Richard Parsons, chairman of beleaguered Citigroup Inc., asked if Obama could offer some help in a national battle “between confidence and fear.” “A smidgen of good news and suddenly everything is doing great. A little bit of bad news and ooohh , we’re down on the ...
Carefully Calibrated Crisis
Power Line —
The administration is committed to the proposition that one should never let a crisis go to waste, but this nakedly partisan and opportunistic approach has drawn a lot of criticism. Also, President Obama has so consistently emphasized (some say exaggerated) the perils of the current economy that many blame him for the stock market's catastrophic decline--before yesterday, anyway--and other problems plausibly associated with such official pessimism.
So it seems that the administration is trying to calibrate its message to achieve essentially incompatible goals:
Confronting misgivings, even in his own party, President ...

Oops!... Obama Says Economic Crisis Not So Bad After All
Gateway Pundit —
Oopsy. After blowing a couple of trillion, Obama now says the economic emergency is "not as bad as we think." It seems like it was just yesterday that this was a "crisis of epic proportions": But, thanks for passing that trillion dollar spending bill that put the government into massive debt. Breitbart reported: Confronting misgivings, even in his own party, President Barack Obama mounted a stout defense of his blueprint to overhaul the economy Thursday, declaring the national crisis is "not as bad as we ...

Thus far, the Obama Administration has been telling us that we are in a crisis. Now? Not so much : Confronting misgivings, even in his own party, President Barack Obama mounted a stout defense of his blueprint to overhaul the economy Thursday, declaring the national crisis is "not as bad as we think" and his plans will speed recovery. Challenged to provide encouragement as the nation's "confidence builder in chief," Obama said Americans shouldn't be whipsawed by bursts of either bad or good news and he was "highly optimistic" about the long term. The president's proposals for major health care, energy and education changes in the midst of economic ...
Heh: Obama Polls Numbers Below Where Bush's Were in 2001
JammieWearingFool —
For all the propping up by the media, for all the slavish fawning from Hollywood, the left and the nonstop slobbering ovaer Obama, it's all going down the tubes. He's less popular than George W. Bush was at the same juncture of his presidency eight years ago. And don't forget that was coming off the Florida recount after Al Gore tried to steal the presidency. It is simply wrong for commentators to continue to focus on President Barack Obama's high levels of popularity , and to conclude that these are indicative of high levels of public confidence in the work of his administration. Indeed, a detailed look at recent survey data shows that the opposite ...

Americans See 18% of Wealth Vanish
The Democratic Daily —
The WSJ reports that Americans have seen 18% of their wealth vanish in 2008. That’s a rather conservative estimate because they go on in the piece to note some folks have lost upwards of 35% of their wealth. I’ve talked to friends who have lost 40% or more in the past few months.
Given this terribly bleak news about how Americans are seeing their life’s savings and investments disappear, coupled with news like the tent cities popping up around the nation and ever rising unemployment rates, I don’t understand how President Obama can say the “economic crisis ‘not as bad as we think.’” ...

Obama Economic Adviser Bemoans 'Excess of Fear'
JammieWearingFool —
You've got to be kidding me. Hey, Larry, go talk to your boss about the excessive fear . President Barack Obama's top economic adviser said Friday the nation's economic crisis has led to an "excess of fear" among Americans that must be broken to reverse the downturn. "Fear begets fear," Lawrence Summers, the president's director of the National Economic Council, told a forum. Uh, who's been the one preaching fear ? "It is this transition from an excess of greed to an excess of fear that President Roosevelt had in mind when he famously observed that the only thing we had to fear was fear itself," Summers said. "It is this transition that has ...
Which Fib Will He Stick With?
California Conservative —
President Obama spent the first month of his administration telling people that the only way to avoid economic catastrophe was to pass Prime Minister Pelosi’s stimulus bill. He said we were facing the worst economic conditions since the Great Depression. According to this AP article, President Obama says that things aren’t so bad. My question is simple: Which fib will he stick with?

Economic Disaster? "Never Mind!"
Stones Cry Out —
Gilda Radner’s character from old Saturday Night Live shows, Emily Litella, was a hard-of-hearing commentator on the show’s Weekend Update segment. She would, for example, go on and on with her outrage that the Supreme Court was considering a "deaf" penalty case, or with her support of "Youth in Asia". When Chevy Chase nudged her and let her know that it was instead a "death" penalty case or "euthanasia", realizing she’d misheard the subject, she meekly turned back to the camera and gave her trademark line, "Never mind."
Apparently, Miss Litella went on to become ...

Demonstrating how life often imitates art when it comes to politics, the cast of the Wall Street-Washington comedy show devoted a great many hours this week to putting lipstick on the pig of a worsening economic reality.

An About Face on Fear
American Thinker —
Email Friend | Print Article | | Digg! | March 21, 2009 An About Face on Fear By Jeannie DeAngelis At a recent forum, when referring to the present tsunami of national economic fear, Lawrence Summers, the president's director of the National Economic Council said, "Fear begets fear." His comment had a very biblical ring to it, "Faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things unseen" (Hebrews 11:1). In a similar context, Summers' words might read, "Fear is the substance of things feared." Fear wreaks negativity in the same way as faith contributes to the positive. Summers' fiscal premise being, fear ...
