Tom Friedman: Just Another Useful Idiot

This is a very good column:
There is much in the House cap-and-trade energy bill that just passed that I absolutely hate. It is too weak in key areas and way too complicated in others. A simple, straightforward carbon tax would have made much more sense than this Rube Goldberg contraption. It is pathetic that we couldn’t do better. It is appalling that so much had to be given away to polluters. It stinks. It’s a mess. I detest it.
Now let’s get it passed in the Senate and make it law.
One thing I ...

Paging Tom Friedman . There is much in the House cap-and-trade energy bill that just passed that I absolutely hate. It is too weak in key areas and way too complicated in others. I call it the SUE defense, the Shut-Up Explanation. Here’s a quick and dirty example of how it works:
Skeptic – “There has been no global warming since 1998.” Green – “Shut up!”
In which Tom Friedman permanently convinces me that he is a partisan, fad-chasing knucklehead.

The pride of St. Louis Park MN, Thomas Friedman of the New York Times on the opposition to the Democrats recent carbon credit cap and trade bill: What are Republicans thinking? It is not as if they put forward a different strategy, like a carbon tax. Does the G.O.P. want to be the party of sex scandals and polluters or does it want to be a partner in helping America dominate the next great global industry: E.T. -- energy technology? How could Republicans become so anti-environment, just when the country is going green? And the Western suburbs weep. Awaiting former St. Louis ...

We are probably lying to you about actually trying to strengthen the bill;
Strengthening the bill is not possible because it will probably lead to the defeat of the bill. Anyone who thinks otherwise is na?ve.
It is your fault that the climate change bill sucks.Man, I want to get up off my ass and work hard based on that message.

Y2Kyoto: Now Is The Time At SDA When We Juxtapose! New York Times columnist Thomas L. Friedman - "...this bill’s goal of reducing U.S. carbon emissions to 17 percent below 2005 levels by 2020 is nowhere near what science tells us we need to mitigate climate change. But it also contains significant provisions to prevent new buildings from becoming energy hogs, to make our appliances the most energy efficient in the world and to help preserve forests in places like the Amazon." ...
