McCain’s Veep is Sarah Palin. Conservatives Rejoice.
The Sundries Shack —
... Jonah Goldberg is admitting getting the flop-sweats about her, but sees more good than bad. His point about debating Biden is well-taken. She’ll have to study her foreign policy hard, but Biden being Biden, he’ll go into the dabtes with her even more cocky than he alraedy is. And it won’t play well shen he turns his ever-present sneer on her. He is also right, though, that Palin is going to be the instant target of the effete liberal press who will laugh at how she speaks. That will ultimately be a benefit for her since the average American thinks a whole lot ...

... vote (where McCain needed to play a bit of defense against Barr); she helps McCain in the Mountain West (Colorado and Montana) where he cannot afford to lose any states (except New Mexico); she neutralizes Biden in the debates (if he comes out zinging, he'll seem ungentlemanly); and, most important, she makes McCain seem bold, future-oriented, and in control of his Administration, where Obama has seemed timid, defensive and unable to control his own party. Alarming News —
My thoughts exactly Jonah Goldberg sums up : Quick, and provisional bottom line: The upside: She's the best of the dark horses because she's an exciting, exotic (yet heartlandish) female pick. The base will love her. She's a true outsider and the only person in the race with serious executive experience. This will have to mean McCain's flipping on ANWR, which will make gas prices a central issue. Downside: She may not be ready for primetime. The heartbeat-from-the-presidency issue is a real one. Obama’s Speech: “Now Is the Time”
The Moderate Voice —
... . It’s hard to focus on Obama while giggling incredulously. And—though many are puzzled, a few are happy. Indeed, Jonah Goldberg over at The Corner is so excited he is ” having some flop sweats at the idea it’s actually happening.” But though I must pause again to scrub out my brain, I refuse to be deflected. ...
McCain’s choice of Palin follows Bill Kristol’s lead.

... Kristol also predicted that if McCain did choose Palin, she would “persuade him that we have to drill in ANWR and have an aggressive drilling program across the board.” With conservatives hoping for McCain to ...

... , and Jonah Goldberg have fleshed out most of the negatives so read them first, paying particular attention to Goldberg’s point about Palin’s parochialism. The Dan Quayle narrative is already circling overhead in search of a gaffe to alight on, which is why, fairly or not, Obama’s lack of experience isn’t as damaging as hers. Whatever you think of Barry O, he’s got intelligence to spare to handle the job; a voter worried that Obama doesn’t know what he’s in for can console himself with the fact that he’ll be a quick study. That may be true of Palin too but she doesn’t have ...

The Attacks Have Already Begun on Palin
A Blog For All —
... , and if she doesn't force that view on others, I don't have a problem with it. However, the media is already bowdlerizing her comments on it to make it appear that she is indeed seeking to push creationism into the schools alongside evolution. Jonah Goldberg has already fleshed out many of her negatives, and I noted them, including the experience issue, ...
Return of the Silent Majority?
Sound Politics —
... blogger was too young to recall the media reaction to the rise and governance of Ronald Reagan. Sure, I've heard and read recountings. And Lord knows I've seen the roughshod treatment conservatives - especially from the West & South - are prone to receive from the media establishment, with its left-of-center, East Coast sensibilities. Nonetheless, the full-scale response of the media and the left to Sarah Palin has been more than just a little instructive. As Jonah Goldberg so ably predicted at a very early stage , they're flummoxed and taken aback by the "rube from the ...
