Like those in the rest of America, people in Alaska were surprised when their governor, Sarah Palin, was named Friday to be Senator John McCain’s vice-presidential pick. And Monday morning, the Alaskan delegates gathered in Minneapolis-St. Paul for the Republican National Convention were again caught by surprise, this time by news that Ms. Palin’s 17-year-old, unmarried daughter, Bristol, was pregnant. THE STABILITY OF THE TICKET.... The New York Times had an item today about the various questions swirling around Sarah Palin, and reported, "Gov. Mark Sanford of South Carolina said that he had heard no discussion about removing Ms. Palin from the ticket." The interesting thing about that isn't the response, which was predictable, but the fact that Sanford was asked the question in the first place.
