Alaska Gov,. Sarah Palin (R) announced she will step down as Alaska governor, reports the Anchorage Daily News.
The timing -- coming in the late afternoon on the first day of a holiday weekend -- couldn't be stranger and will lead to much speculation as to why she seems to be dropping her political career.
