Democrats Plan New Deal 2.0?
Tennessee Guerilla Women — I believe this is what Republicans call socialism: With visions of a massive liberal majority in the next Congress and the power to remake economic policy for the next generation, Democrats are dusting off their New Deal history books and openly discussing the idea of re-engineering Depression-era agencies for the 21st century. Several lawmakers want to bring back the Home Ownership Loan Corp., and others have discussed resurrecting the defunct Reconstruction Finance Corp., a federal program that made direct loans to businesses. Obamanomics — Is Obama the New ...

Is This Campaign Really More Negative Than Past Campaigns?
The Corner on National Review Online — Wednesday, October 15, 2008 [image] Is This Campaign Really More Negative Than Past Campaigns? [ Byron York ] The lead story in today's New York Times is "Poll Says McCain Is Hurting His Bid By Using Attacks." It's based on a new Times survey showing that about one-quarter of the one-fifth of the people who say they think less of McCain than in the past have changed their opinion because of McCain's attacks on Barack Obama. But the paper also found that not that many people believe this campaign is more negative than past years. The Times asked, "Compared with past presidential campaigns, do you think the campaign has been more positive this ...

Is this campaign more negative?
Interesting Times — I think Byron York over at The Corner brings up a good point. That 30 percent figure [percentage in a New York Times Poll who said that this campaign was more negative than past campaigns -- chris] is lower than this point in 2004, when 41 percent said the campaign was more negative than previous years.  At this point in 1992, 34 percent said the campaign was more negative.  And at this point in 1988, 47 percent said it was more negative. Assessing the negativity of a campaign is not a science. There are several variations on the questions. For instance, is the total volume of negativity higher? Or are the negative attacks, by themselves, more vicious ...

Poll Says Up Is Down
Jim Treacher's Blog That Is on the Internet — Poll Says Up Is Down NYT: Poll Says McCain Hurts His Bid by Using Attacks Questioning the record of a man who could be the next president: Personal attack. Questioning the uterus of a woman who could be the next vice president: Vetting. These guys are not even pretending anymore. They've stacked the deck right in front of our eyes. If they can turn a few jerks at a rally into Birth of a Nation II , why should we believe their polls or their interpretation of them? That headline might as well be Poll Says McCain Hurts His Bid by Running Against the Next President . They're ...
