WHAT OBAMA'S BOW DOWN TO THE EMPEROR REALLY MEANT
THE ASTUTE BLOGGERS —
Leftists argue - disingenuously - that President Obama BOWED DOWN to the Emperor of Japan merely as a show of "respect". BUT: The following international leaders DID NOT BOW DOWN (click for photos): Prime Minister Ehud Olmert King of Morocco Dick Cheney Prime Minister Slovenia President South Korea President Kazakhstan Prime Minister India Vladimir PutinWERE THEY "DISRESPECTFUL"!? NOPE. Obama was NOT being "respectful" as the left disingenuously argues; Obama was offering a STEALTH ...
White House Claims That Obama’s Bow To Akihito Was “Protocol,” But It’s Not
Below The Beltway —
... official said. “He observes protocol. But I don’t think anybody who was in Japan – who saw his speech and the reaction to it, certainly those who witnesses his bilateral meetings there – would say anything other than that he enhanced both the position and the status of the U.S., relative to Japan. It was a good, positive visit at an important time, because there’s a lot going on in Japan.”
So, if it’s a matter of protocol, we can expect to find pictures of other world leaders bowing to Akihito, right ?
Hmm, not the Prime ...
Bowing to Precedence

WHAT’S IN A BOW?
Right Wing Nut House —
... such instructions from a foreign entity. But he obviously did not indicate to any of the American embassy staff, nor to any aides familiar with Japan that he intended to bow, and bow deeply. Anyone with about two days’ familiarity with Japan knows about bowing. The average person in Japan bows dozens of times a day. You see it everywhere. Lifson goes on to say that the emperor’s reaction was in keeping with someone who has been embarrassed and chooses to smile broadly instead. Looking at pics of other world leaders greeting the emperor, seems to bear that out. So is it a big ...

The Bow And The Mao
Winds of Change.NET —
Count me among the exasperated at Obama's willingness to bow before royalty - it's funny actually, that such an avowed progressive (the group that believes in dissolving the connections of power) is so willing to defer to royalty.
And no, it's not a diplomatic custom (see this series at Hot Air), and it's not even Japanese custom (contrary to dimwitted claims to the contrary) - you don't shake his hand and bow, and the bow that Obama offered is certainly not the kind of Japanese bow between equals (see Wikipedia).
Obama seems to ...
The Bow as “Protocol”
Weekly Standard Blog —
... Why won’t that “senior administration official” come out from behind the curtain and make that assertion in his own name? Because it’s nonsense. As these photos make clear, numerous heads of state and the former U.S. vice president didn't bow to the emperor; they shook hands. The New York Times ...

Yesterday I posted about Obama's violation of protocol when he submissively bowed to the Japanese emperor. According to some of the comments left on my post yesterday, however, this subservient gesture is no big deal. Obama was only showing "elementary courtesy," as one commenter put it.
If that be the case, then I guess we should take a look at how other world leaders have greeted the Japanese emperor.
Via HotAirPundit, we have a few photographs of world leaders greeting the emperor.
