I am quite surprised -- nearly shocked -- at the pick of Biden. I believe Obama has made an error -- not just hope so, believe. And he had so many good options for the veep slot (unlike John McCain). He could have gone Kaine, Bayh, Sebelius, Boren, Edwards (Chet) -- he had many good options. It was practically impossible to screw up. I never thought that Biden was a decent option. James J. ...

The Most Self-Loving Presidential Ticket Ever
Say Anything — Jay Nordlinger has the best take on Obama/Biden so far: I believe that Barack Obama will not wear well. Indeed, I think his act has been wearing thin for weeks. And I think that his vice-presidential nominee will wear even worse. I’m not sure why he went with Biden — maybe he likes him, personally, which is not the worst thing in the world. It’s helpful if a president likes his vice president (or at least doesn’t dislike him). But I don’t see what Biden gains him. Biden is a slightly risible figure, what with his ...

"Obviously, Joe and I have been on different philosophical sides, but we have been - I consider him a good friend and good man." Reid Wilson: Experienced, intelligent and savvy, Obama's choice, in retrospect, could not have been anyone else. Jay Nordlinger: The verbiage ticket, this is, and the arrogance ticket, and ...

So set 'em up, Joe
Power Line — ... did in advance). From Hillary Clinton to Evan Bayh and Bill Richardson, Obama had a formidable field from which to choose. I was afraid that Obama would tap Bayh, a serious man with executive experience and political appeal in a red state. I breathed a sigh of relief that Obama chose Biden. Like Jay Nordlinger , I find that at best Biden adds nothing to the Democratic ticket. Rather than adding to Obama's attractions or neutralizing Obama's liabilities, if he does anything, Biden subtracts from Obama's strengths and contributes to his liabilities. As a national candidate in ...

Biden’s Horrible! No He’s Not
PoliGazette — For two partisan, or at least ideological, takes on Barack Obama’s choice for his running mate, Joe Biden, I recommend these two articles: “Why Biden is the Perfect Pick” by Reid Wilson for Real Clear Politics “Obama’s Error: Biden Gains Him Nothing” by Jay Nordlinger for National Review Online As for who is right and who is wrong… Both are a little bit right, and a little bit wrong. They would never publicly admit this, but it is true. Both have good points; one focuses on ...

8/25: Reactions To Biden
Blogometer — ... card, it should be fun having a real pit bull in the number two position to do some of the necessary dirty work." The vast majority of conservative bloggers consider Biden a terrible choice for Obama's running mate. Many righty bloggers are buzzing about Biden's propensity for verbal gaffes, which they expect (and hope) will create problems for Obama during the fall campaign. Many conservative bloggers are pushing the idea that an Obama/Biden ticket represents all talk and no action. Jay Nordlinger calls it "the verbiage ticket" while ...
