Cutting costs
Political Animal —
... , published over the weekend, on the ways in which the reform plan would cut costs. The White House has been circulating Brownstein's item , and for good reason -- it's an important piece. When I reached Jonathan Gruber on Thursday, he was working his way, page by laborious page, through the mammoth health care bill Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had unveiled just a few hours earlier. Gruber is a leading health economist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who is consulted by politicians in both parties. He was one of almost two dozen top economists who sent ...

Required Reading in the White House Needs to be Expanded
Daily Kos —
Rahm Emanuel apparently gave as homework to all White House Senior staffers Ron Brownstein's Saturday blog post in the Atlantic, in which Brownstein thumbs his nose a bit a "Democratic liberals" and touts how much of the Baucus plan got into Reid's bill. Both the Senate bill's priority on controlling long-term health care costs, and its strategy for doing so, represents a validation for Senate Finance Committee chairman Max Baucus (D-MT). When Baucus released his health reform proposal last September, after finally terminating months of fruitless ...
Ron Brownstein is Completely Uninformed; Rahm Emanuel is a Fool for Thinking Otherwise
Firedoglake —

Rahm Emanuel is making practically every staffer in the White House read Ronald Brownstein’s completely uninformed article about the great “free market economagic” cost saving solutions in the Senate bill. This explains a lot about why the current health care reform proposals are so bad. This is probably the single worst piece of news I have heard during the entire health care debate. If someone as powerful as Rahm thinks there is any value in Brownstein’s writing, reform is in very bad shape.
The problem is Brownstein just doesn’t ...

Does Consulting Contract Explain Gruber’s Exaggerated Claims About Senate Health Bill?
Firedoglake —
... was just a guy who enjoyed the stoplight and was prone to exaggeration. Having recently found out that he received close to $400,000 from single source contracts with the Department of Health and Human Services to study the effect of the “President’s health care proposal,” I’m no longer as curious about his behavior.
For an example of Gruber’s nonsense, look at his statement in Ron Brownstein’s much published article on cost control, which Rahm Emanuel was telling everyone to read: ...
