From Pejman Yousefzadeh we learn that in the wake of the Blagogate scandal, President-elect Barack Obama’s chief of staff Rahm Emmanuel was asked by reporters Thursday if he was the Obama advisor named in the criminal complaint against Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D-IL):
Emanuel refused–rather brusquely, as the story points out–to answer any questions concerning this issue. He can run, but he can’t hide and the press had better be working to smoke him–and the rest of the transition team–out.
At least one reporter appears to be on the case. Craig Wall of Fox Chicago News ...

12/12: A Tough Night For Detroit
Blogometer —
December 12, 2008 12/12: A Tough Night For Detroit The big topic in the blogosphere today is the Senate's failure to reach a compromise on a gov't rescue of the U.S. auto industry. Liberal bloggers are accusing Senate GOPers of opposing the auto bailout for political reasons instead of "doing what's best for the country" . They're convinced that Congress' failure to pass a rescue bill will force GM and Chrysler to file for bankruptcy, which will lead to the loss of millions of jobs and negatively affect other sectors of the economy. Jane Hamsher declares: "I think this erases all doubt -- the Republicans quite plainly want the economy to fail ." Conservative bloggers, on the ...

Rod Blagojevich and gave him a list of "acceptable names" for filling Sen. Barack Obama's Senate seat. The conversations between Emanuel and Blogojevich were reportedly taped. Those would be tapes worth hearing -- without the bleeps.

Rahm and Blago
Ben Smith's Blog —
The odd thing about Obama's internal investigation of the Blago mess is that it doesn't seem very hard: He has a small handful of top aides who might have spoken to Blagojevich, and for whom it would not have been at all untoward to chat with the governor about his appointment.
Axelrod says he hasn't spoken to Blago for a long time; that leaves, basically, Jarrett and Emanuel.
Now Chicago's Fox affiliate reports that Emanuel suggested to Blagojevich some names for the seat, nothing more -- which would, again, be normal and expected.
Emanuel's totally uncharacteristic silence, though, is puzzing.

Rahmbo can’t stand the heat
RedState: Conservative News and Community —
Obama chief of staff Rahm Emmanuel, the object of increased media attention (see here and here), complained this morning that he wouldn’t go to his job in the transition team office. Emmanuel said he was staying inside the house to duck the gaggle of reporters anxious to ask him if he had contact with disgraced Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, a Democrat, about the Senate seat vacated by Barack Obama’s election.
But Emmanuel did talk to a cameraman he invited inside his home to use the bathroom. ABC News reported today that Emmanuel told the cameraman: ...
