Rick Warren explicitly bans "unrepentant" gays from membership in his church
We get lectures about civility and the need to welcome everyone, even those we disagree with, and Rick Warren won't even welcome us in his church. This is from the Saddleback Church's own Web site . You know things are bad when the church goes out of its way to explicitly say that you're not ...

No Hand Reaching Back
Talking Points Memo — Policy statement from Rick Warren's Saddleback Church ... "Because membership in a church is an outgrowth of accepting the Lordship and leadership of Jesus in one's life, someone unwilling to repent of their homosexual lifestyle would not be accepted at a member at Saddleback Church." (ed.note: Special thanks to John Aravosis' Americablog.) ...

One (Really, Really) Cool Thing About Rick Warren
MoJo Blog Posts: mojo — ... example: He reverse tithes, giving away 90% and keeping 10%. Of course, when Warren publicly preaches against Prop 8, he's living out values that he doesn't share with me. But that little factoid is still pretty awesome. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't do the same if I made what he makes. That's from the Huffington Post, where you'll find a progressive defense of Warren. Update: Man, this ruins the mood. Gays "unwilling to repent" are banned from Warren's church.

Teh gay is something you choose.
INSTAPUTZAravosis points to this section of Saddleback's website. I've heard it asked, "Isn't being homosexual something that a person is physically born with?" First of all, there are absolutely no facts to support this claim. Doesn't the bible say anything about lying being wrong or something?

Fa-la-la-la-la
HorsesAss.Org — ... Progressives have a moral duty to point out what Rick Warren and his ilk actually stand for, and it’s not a pretty picture, all the glossy trappings aside. If it makes editors feel better to harrumph and snort about how middle-of-the-road they are, also fine, but they’re missing the entire point. ...

How Do I Fuck My Base? Let Me Count The Ways.
Jesus' General — How Do I Fuck My Base? Let Me Count The Ways. A poem by Barack Obama How do I fuck my base. Let me count the ways? I fuck them by reaching out to homophobic pastors and the bigoted throngs they represent. I fuck them by embracing war-mongering apparatchiks and the neo-con wet dreams they blindly followed. I fuck them by allowing war-criminals and torturers to  escape the punishment they so richly deserve. I fuck them by endorsing domestic spying and allowing the telecoms to profit from their complicity. I fuck them and smile  as I reach out to everyone but ...

Warren’s church removes anti-gay statements from website.
Think Progress — ... On Friday, AmericaBlog’s John Aravosis pointed out that the website for Rev. Rick Warren’s Saddleback Church explicitly said that “someone unwilling to repent for their homosexual lifestyle would not be accepted as a member at Saddleback”: ...

Benedict and Warren
The Daily Dish | By Andrew Sullivan — ... that the Saddleback website posting that  “someone unwilling to repent for their homosexual lifestyle would not be accepted as a member at Saddleback” has been removed. I have to say that this did not strike me as in any way notable, especially since the note also insisted that gays were always welcome to attend services. And one wonders how that makes Warren different from any Catholic bishop let alone the Pope. My own church teaches that I am barred from full communion because of my civil marriage to another man, although it does not bar me from attending mass. ...
