Most people view pirates like this, thanks to the fact that in this part of the world they're part of history: Unfortunately, in parts of the Indian Ocean near Somalia pirates are very real, very now, and very dangerous. Which brings me to this little news article : The Royal Navy's Type 22 frigate, HMS Cumberland, encountered a stolen Yemeni dhow at sea, and when they sent Marines to investigate the pirates aboard opened fire. No injuries reported among the British Marines and sailors; three dead pirates and the rest taken prisoner. Huzzah, and a tot of rum all around!
