This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I told you about this last night.
This is NOT an isolated incident. THIS is going on all over the country. TV stations carrying anti-Hussein ads are threatened with their broadcast licenses. Radio stations are harassed when talk shows host people who talk out against Hussein. But as you saw in the videos last night, his camp and thugs can twist and turn the truth whichever way they damn well please.

Missouri Governor Blasts Obama Campaign For Organizing “Truth Squads”

I find this incredible and more than a little frightening.
The Obama campaign, in conjuction with several law enforcement agencies in Missouri, have formed what they are calling “Truth Squads” and are theatening the prosecution of anyone who lies or distorts the truth in a political ad.
I know the phrase “Stalinist” is thrown around quite a bit and is used whenever someone wants to paint another as a totalitarian monster, but in this case the term applies and applies well.

But I don't know whether they have indeed tried to say something along these lines (among all the other things I don't know, despite having listened to the broadcast and read several posts that criticized the broadcast). OBAMA CAMPAIGN ADOPTS POLICE STATE TACTICS TO SUPPRESS DISSENT
Southern Appeal —
The Obama Campaign has recently adopted a truly frightening tactic in Missouri. Obama’s campaign is assembling a group of sympathetic prosecutors and law enforcement agents to “target” anyone they think is lying or misleading the public about Obama and his positions. If this intimidation tactic didn’t smack of fascism by its very nature, the title of this group, The Barack Obama Truth Squad, should dispel any lingering doubts. You can watch a local news report about the group here. ...

Obama’s Ongoing Threats Against Free Speech
Israpundit —
The first glimmer of the kind of strong arm tactics Obama would use came back in 1996 when Obama ran (over his competition) for the State Senate:
The day after New Year’s 1996, operatives for Barack Obama filed into a barren hearing room of the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners.
There they began the tedious process of challenging hundreds of signatures on the nominating petitions of state Sen. Alice Palmer, the longtime progressive activist from the city’s South Side. And they kept challenging petitions until every one of Obama’s four Democratic primary rivals was forced off the ballot.
Fresh from his work as a civil ...

Political Punch —
Conservatives Embarrassed About Palin (No. 3 in a Series) | Main Attacking Obama's Missouri ‘Truth Squad’ September 29, 2008 11:12 AM Republicans -- led by the Governor of Missouri and the Republican National Committee -- are alleging that there is something untoward about the "Truth Squad" the Obama campaign has set up in the "Show Me" State. The problem, these Republicans say, is that these "Truth Squad" members are prosecutors and sheriffs with law enforcement powers, thus creating an atmosphere where Missourians might be afraid of being prosecuted for criticizing Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill. There is no evidence, however, that these prosecutors are threatening to use their ...

If you don't read right-wing blogs, you might have missed it, but Republicans tried to make a flap about the fact that the Obama campaign announced a "Missouri Truth Squad" to rebut false charges against Obama, and the "Truth Squad" included some law enforcement officials.
