With Election Day just eight days away, the B word is suddenly being mentioned as a possibility: blowout. So suggests Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute , which released a poll on Monday morning showing that Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg is ahead of William C. Thompson Jr. by 18 percentage points among likely voters — 53 percent to 35 percent.
