White House: Hey, You Know What Might End the Hannukah War? Maybe Hamas Could Take a Chill-Pill on Lobbing Rockets Into Israel
Ace of Spades HQ —
... violence has resulted in more than 300 dead Palestinians and two dead Israelis. "In order for the violence to stop, Hamas must stop firing rockets into Israel and agree to respect a sustainable and durable cease-fire. That is the objective to which all parties need to be working. That is what the United States is working towards," National Security Council Spokesman Gordon Johndroe said in Crawford, Texas. Building on Gabe's earlier post, Noah Pollack from Contentions takes on the Juicebox Mafia (not sure what that means, but I like it) and their endless apologism for Hamas. ...
Noah Pollak: The Juicebox Mafia
The Jawa Report —
December 29, 2008 Noah Pollak: The Juicebox Mafia I was reading this article by Noah here :The Juicebox Mafia is working shifts on the Gaza crisis. Matthew Yglesias writes something dumb enough that it needs no elaboration: But already the number of Israelis killed by Hamas rockets has increased (from a baseline of zero) since the retaliatory attack that was supposed to prevent such killings. Spencer Ackerman, who becomes very Jewish when it comes time to condemn Israel: Fellow litry tribesman: do you believe for a moment that leveling Gaza will stop the rockets? Well, then ...

... As Noah Pollak points out, the war against Hezbollah in 2006 did succeed in stopping the rocket fire on Israel's northern border -- at least for the time being. The problem was not solved permanently, and that was indeed a tremendous and unfortunate failure. But as Jeffrey Goldberg ...
The media assault against Israel
Yourish.com —
... The American media is doing all it can to undermine Israel’s case for war. I’m not just talking about those anti-Israel bloviators whom Noah Pollak amusingly call the “juicebox mafia,” but the opinion pages of major American newspapers have been mobilized to condemn Israel. ...

The Utility of Force in Gaza
Weekly Standard Blog —
... before you use your own, nor are there any rules that restrict Israel to using weapons that are of equal or lesser caliber than the ones which Hamas uses against Israeli civilians.
So this is a strange phenomena that leaves critics of Israel forced to create their own rules of warfare to better fit their narrative. It's an odd play for a crowd noted for their championing of global solutions and treaties to local problems.
For more, I highly recommend Noah Pollack's The Juicebox Mafia on Gaza.

... I don't write very often about Israel/Palestine, because it's not really an area of my expertise (though I certainly know more about it than, say, Marty Peretz or Noah Pollak, in that I'm not demented), and because no other topic quite brings out the Internet crazy. Like, say, Marty Peretz, between whom and Pam Gellar there's not a tit's worth of insane difference here. However. One need not carry any brief for Hamas without it being clear that the current Israeli government, and likely subsequent Israeli governments, don't want "peace" so much as ...
