Obama’s Potential Pick For Attorney General Plagued With Scandal From Countrywide, 9/11
Say Anything —
I know Obama talks a lot about audacity, but the cojones it would take to appointment someone like Jamie Gorelick - a true-blue “friend of Angelo” and the author of the much-talked about “wall” between domestic and national intelligence that many (including me) precipitated the intelligence failures that allowed 9/11 to happen - would be nothing short of astounding.
Do even liberals believe that this is the sort of “change we can believe in” Obama promised?

GORELICK as Attorney General?????
The Discerning Texan —
Whoa. As a political move--even from Obama's point of view--this is monumentally stupid: HOPE AND CHANGE! Jamie Gorelick being considered for Attorney General. I think she'd be a great choice. I mean, any friend of Angelo's is a friend of mine! And, really, what could go wrong? UPDATE: I'd almost forgotten the "Clipper Chip" fiasco. Thanks to reader Mike Gannis for reminding me. I'm guessing that Gorelick has learned how to use email since, though . . . . [....] MORE ON THE UBIQUITOUS JAMIE GORELICK: "It's not often that one person plays key roles in two -- count ...

Obama Considering Controversial Figure for Attorney General
PoliGazette —
It was reported late Sunday evening that president-elect Barack Obama considers picking Jamie Gorelick as his Attorney General.
Gorelick is a controversial figure. Shortly after the report was published, conservative bloggers responded angrily, calling on the Republican minority in Congress to do everything in their power to prevent Gorelick from becoming the country’s Attorney General. If necessary, the filibuster should be used, these bloggers say.
The reason for their aggressive response is that Gorelick is considered the woman who erected the wall between the Department of Justice and FBI counterintelligence agents. She is the one ‘credited’ for ...

Insanity: Obama To Ship Club Gitmo Monsters to U.S. for Trial
JammieWearingFool —
Absolute lunacy . Talk about inviting terrorist strikes on the homeland. President-elect Obama's advisers are quietly crafting a proposal to ship dozens, if not hundreds, of imprisoned terrorism suspects to the United States to face criminal trials, a plan that would make good on his promise to close the Guantanamo Bay prison but could require creation of a controversial new system of justice. During his campaign, Obama described Guantanamo as a "sad chapter in American history" and has said generally that the U.S. legal system is equipped to handle the detainees. But he has offered few details on what he planned to do once the facility is closed. If he thinks Club Gitmo is a sad chapter , ...

Crushing the hope of change?
Classical Values —
Crushing the hope of change? Please don't crush my hope so early, Mr. Obama. So pleads Ann Althouse , reflecting on a truly dreadful idea -- that Barack Obama might appoint Jamie Gorelick as Attorney General. While I didn't vote for Obama, I'm not the type to say inane things like "DON'T BLAME ME! I VOTED FOR MCCAIN!" Slogans like that annoy me. Barack Obama is my president just as much as anyone else's, and I have just as much of a right and a duty to opine on matters of national importance. So, what I will say is, simply, "Please, Mr. President Elect. Say it's not true!" Gorelick is a bad choice. By any reasonable standard, she simply has too much baggage. I've criticized Gorelick for this ...
