Obama just chose a White House photographer, Pete Souza, an experienced photojournalist who will be a not insignificant part of the imagemaking apparatus.
He's already published a volume of Obama photography, above, and some examples of his style, some intimate, some iconic, are on his website.

Souza first met Obama in January 2005 when the now president-elect was being sworn into office as the junior senator from Illinois. He documented Obama's first year in office as part of a multi-part series for the Tribune that included trips to Africa and Russia.
Souza later compiled the photos in a best selling book called "The Rise of Barack Obama."
