The GOP Has Declared War On Obama
The Daily Dish | By Andrew Sullivan —
... This much is now clear. Their clear and open intent is to do all they can, however they can, to sabotage the new administration (and the economy to boot). They want failure. Even now. Even after the last eight years. Even in a recession as steeply dangerous as this one. There are legitimate debates to be had; and then there is the cynicism and surrealism of total political war. We now should have even less doubt about what kind of people they are. And the mountain of partisan vitriol Obama will have to climb every day of the next four or eight years. ...
Maybe I'm missing something, but...

What about this post leads to the conclusion that the GOP has "declared war" on the Obama administration? Even without the dispositive "late update," it is hard to see how the Judd affair reflects poorly on Republicans. Obama nominated the guy and then pulled the Census Bureau out from under the Commerce Department so that it could report directly into the White House. If the Bush administration had done such a thing the mainstream media (and Andrew Sullivan) would have gone completely batshit. * Judd's withdrawal, even if handled imperfectly and without "fair ...

Of Stimulus Lessons And Judd Gregg’s Withdrawal
RedState: Conservative News and Community —
... that the Gregg withdrawal is proof that the Republicans have “declared war” on Obama. Never mind the fact that other Cabinet nominees–at least, the ones that don’t have to withdraw from consideration because of obstacles like tax cheating–have been receiving overwhelming support from both parties in Senate confirmation votes. Wonder of wonders? So the same Judd Gregg who was against the Department of Commerce before he was nominated for running it has now run away from the nomination. And people will run away with commentary. Hello, Judd Gregg is here to see you, sir. Judd who? Judd who let the Obama admin know he was out by letting reporters in on the news first. By, by again to bipartisanship. It's tough to be bipartisan when the other side doesn't want to be bipartisan with you. The ...

Did Gregg Provide an Opening for the GOP?
News —
... on the Hill with whom I’ve spoken are in a sense relieved; they were worried that clever “post-partisan” or bipartisan tactics by Obama could split and weaken an already uncertain and demoralized GOP. But if it is true that Rahm Emanuel chooses to behave like Karl Rove on steroids, then Republican unity and fighting spirit will be pretty easy to maintain. Needless to say, Obama fans are peeved and some say the GOP is playing dirty. Josh Marshall says the timing of the announcement says it all and Andrew Sullivan ...
They are not, and will not be, credible partners

THEY ARE NOT, AND WILL NOT BE, CREDIBLE PARTNERS.... After having asked to be considered for the cabinet, Judd Gregg withdrew from consideration. But note how the New Hampshire Republican chose to make his announcement: Gregg released a statement just as President Obama was poised to give a speech about the stimulus package. A Democratic Hill staffer told David Kurtz , "The classy exit would have been to wait til tomorrow afternoon to quietly bow out. Basically Gregg decided not just to politely decline, but rather to blow shit up and burn the bridge behind him." It's hardly ...

... 's Ed Morrissey ! GREGG: Obama Reaches Out And Gets His Hand Slapped Liberal bloggers believe that GOPers like Gregg are deliberately trying to undermine Obama: Meanwhile, TPM 's David Kurtz posted an email from an anonymous Dem Hill staffer who thinks Gregg acted in bad faith: "It's hard not to think that Gregg's withdrawal, with the grumbling about the census and the stimulus, was not timed to cause the most damage possible to the Obama administration. Releasing the statement just as Obama took the stage in Peoria was clearly designed to undermine the President's event. ...
Triangulation Now, Triangulation Forever? GOPers Hang Together
TPM Election Central —
... votes ... just don't go out there and demonize us.
In a narrow fashion, Republicans have a point about the stimulus-- Obama used a high-profile outreach campaign to help put the bill over the top, but congressional Democrats controlled the drafting process for the recovery plan. Yet one wonders whether their mass opposition is a strategy that can be replicated for future legislation on energy, climate change, and financial regulation.
A Hill staffer we heard from yesterday put it best: the GOP is putting all its chips on "FAIL" and doubling ...
