What can Republicans do in the next four years?
Somebody recently asked me: What can Republicans do on health care ? The answer is simple. They lose. In fact, for the next four years, that's going to be the answer Republicans are forced to face over and over again. So let's be blunt about what we can expect: taxes will be higher, universal ...

The Next Right: DOA
Riehl World View — h/t The Hill's Blog Briefing Room. I know Jon Henke but if this is the type of advice that's going to be advanced by something calling itself The Next Right, there might not be any "next right" at all. Somebody recently asked me: What can Republicans do on health care? The answer is simple. They lose. In fact, for the next four years, that's going to be the answer Republicans are forced to face over and over again. So let's be blunt about what we can expect: taxes will be higher, universal health care will be imposed, spending will go way, way up, Unions will be given more power, and the government will increasingly pick winners and ...

What Can Republicans Do? Win.
The Next Right — I have to disagree with the tenor of Jon's latest post. As Republicans, we are not doomed to losing every policy battle these next four years. Who could have imagined, for instance, that we'd come so far on the stimulus? The stimulus is now officially unpopular, with 37% supporting passage in its current form, reminiscent of the plummeting support Clinton's early economic initiatives. In two weeks the GOP has been transformed from the party of Bush to the party of sensible, bipartisan opposition to fiscal insanity. It's amazing what a change in the underlying political dynamic in the form of a new President will do in so short a time. And it's not ...

2/5: The Limits Of Bipartisanship
Blogometer — February 05, 2009 2/5: The Limits Of Bipartisanship Lately there has been a palpable sense of frustration in the liberal blogosphere concerning the economic stimulus bill. Lefty bloggers believe ( with good reason ) that Dems have lost control of the stimulus debate , and they think there are several reasons why. First of all, they believe that liberals aren't making enough appearances on cable news programs and are allowing conservatives to dominate the airwaves . Second, they believe that the media is doing a poor job of correcting "myths and falsehoods" surrounding the stimulus. Third -- and most importantly -- they believe that ...
