Climate on the agenda
Ben Smith's Blog —
The Transition put out this video address to a Schwarzenegger-led climate summit in Los Angeles today.
There's no new policy meat, but more suggestions that Obama won't let the financial crisis push back the shift to cap-and-trade.
"Few challenges facing America -- and the world -- are more urgent than combating climate change," he says in the video. "Many of you are working to confront this challenge....but too often, Washington has failed to show the same kind of leadership. That will change when I take office."

Yes We Can Combat Catastrophic Climate Change
Matthew Yglesias —
Good to hear this message from the President-Elect:
A downturn is, in many ways, a good to get to work on climate/energy issues. There’s less pressure on natural resource availability, and it’s an opportune moment for big infrastructure initiatives that have large up-front costs but important long-term payoffs. ...

"When I am president, any governor who's willing to promote clean energy will have a partner in the White House. Any company that's willing to invest in clean energy will have an ally in Washington. Josh Dorner: Obama Hits Green Homerun With Remarks to Govs on Energy, Climate
Politics on HuffingtonPost.com —
Much like Al Gore's surprise appearance at Netroots Nation this summer (which seems like eons ago at this point), I am told that President-Elect Barack Obama's taped message to the Bi-Partisan Governor's Global Climate Summit was met with thunderous applause and a standing ovation earlier today.
President-Elect Obama's remarks should quiet any remaining suspicions that his campaign pledges--the strongest energy and environmental platform by a presidential candidate ever--were merely fleeting campaign promises to be discarded after Election Day. (Though it should have long since been clear to anyone paying attention that Obama is very ...

Obama Wants To Stay The Course On Climate
The Huffington Post | Full News Feed —
President-elect Barack Obama sent a video message to a summit meeting on global warming organized by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger of California, implying that despite the continuing economic turmoil, reductions in greenhouse gas emissions will remain a central component of Mr. Obama's energy, environmental and economic policies.
Many climate scientists would undoubtedly suggest some tweaks in the language in the statement -- the line about "stopping climate change," for instance. Keep in mind that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change last year concluded that a freeze ...

American Thinker —
November 20, 2008 Obama Out-Gores Gore at Climate Summit By Marc Sheppard Barack Obama managed to say all the wrong things at this week's Governors Global Climate Summit in Los Angeles -- without even showing up. The President-elect appeared to the green faithful on Tuesday in the form of a mammoth video image , and opened his pre-recorded pledge to "take the lead" in addressing global warming with these eerily familiar words:

Truly remarkable is the fact that this summit was an international meeting on climate change between regional leaders from around the globe. This truly remarkable element of the Governors' Global Climate Summit held in Beverly Hills Nov. 18th and 19th is what marks us on a path toward "thinking as one planet." What was heard at the Summit was a chorus of international voices.

Let’s make this global recession permanent, it’s good for the environment! Tonight on WRKO’s Pundit Review Radio at 8pm, author Chris Horner discusses his new book, Red Hot Lies: How Global Warming Alarmists Use Threats, Fraud, and Deception to Keep You Misinformed If global warming climate change is indeed the most important crisis we’ve ever faced , as Al Gore said, then this global recession is about the best thing to happen since, since, since, well, I’m just not sure. William Bradley: Obama and the California Way On Climate
Politics on HuffingtonPost.com —
Barack Obama signaled his support for the California way on climate change policy in this address last November to the Governors' Global Climate Summit in LA.
President Barack Obama is choosing the California way toward dealing with climate change. What this means is that major action to curtail greenhouse gases can happen faster, and without dealing with a traditional lobby-dominated Congress, with California and other states leading the way and doing the work.
Here's how.
Yesterday, Obama instructed the Environmental Protection Agency to swiftly revisit its ...
William Bradley: "Post-Partisanship": How It Works, How It Doesn't
Politics on HuffingtonPost.com —
Then President-elect Barack Obama, delivering his victory speech, stressed post-partisan themes.
Back in 2007, when he was still an underdog candidate for president jousting with John Edwards (remember him?), Barack Obama said that he liked the "post-partisan" posturings of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Now, as president, he's adopted much the same tack, to the dismay of hyper-partisans of all stripes.
They ought to be dismayed, because it works. To a point.
But not in a linear sense.
Let's take a look at how it went in California, and ...
