Barack Obama: "Public Will Have 5 Days To Look At Every Bill That Lands On My Desk" (Video)
Gateway Pundit —
Change! Barack Obama promised an audience on the campaign trail that, "The public would have five days to look over every bill that lands on my desk." What hogwash. Barack Obama is going to sign the largest spending bill in US history on Monday. It had only been posted online for 12 hours before it was voted on in the US House and Senate. Here's the video: Candidate Obama on the campaign trail, speaking about no more back room bills, we will put every pork barrel project online for the public to see, I knew candidate Obama and President Obama are 2 different people, so after going through ...

Flashback: Obama promises to allow five days of public comment before signing bills posted at 8:20 pm on February 14, 2009 by Allahpundit Send to a Friend | Share on Facebook | printer-friendly An oldie but goodie courtesy of aptly-named commenter “democratslied.” The final draft of the stimulus was posted on the White House website for comment Friday afternoon . Word came down today that The One plans to sign it on Tuesday . You do the math. Politifact already busted him for breaking this promise, in fact, when he signed SCHIP before the five-day waiting period had expired. But who cares? It was a sham promise from the moment it ...

Obama throws transparency under the bus
RedState: Conservative News and Community —
With the so-called “stimulus” bill, President Obama has thrown the change he promised under the bus.
On his Change.gov website, Obama promised to “end the practice of writing legislation behind closed doors” - to “restore the American people’s trust in
their government by making government more open and transparent. Obama
will work to reform congressional rules to require all legislative
sessions, including committee mark-ups and conference committees, to be
conducted in public. By making these practices public, the American
people will be able to hold their leaders accountable for wasteful
spending ...
Obama: promises, shmomises
neo-neocon —
Here’s a ringing speech President Obama made back when he was still just candidate Obama (hat tip: American Digest):
Promises, shmomises.
Although come to think of it, the stimulus bill will have been posted for about five days before Obama signs it on Tuesday. The only problem is—what good does that do us when it’s already been passed?
Actually, that’s not the only problem. Another one is that the argument for the lack of transparency in the bill was the extreme haste with which it had to be passed. Then we learned that although it was rushed ...
100 Days of Democrat Rule
Wizbang —
Most of the commentary that I've read about the "first 100 days" has been centered around President Obama. But what we have really just experienced is the first 100 days of absolute Democratic Party rule . This has been the first Congressional session since January 2005 when Democrats held safe majorities in both houses of Congress, and also held the White House. They are the sole architects of all our domestic and foreign policies. Our nation will be steered in the direction dictated by their agenda for at least the next four years. Since January 20th of this year, I've been left with these impressions: 1) The Democrats have delivered virtually no new legislation ...
The End of Transparency (Before It Ever Began):
The Volokh Conspiracy —
Earlier this week, the White House officially abandoned President Obama's "Sunlight before Signing" pledge (which I discussed here and here ). As the NYT reported : During the presidential campaign, Barack Obama promised that once a bill was passed by Congress, the White House would post it online for five days before he signed it. “When there’s a bill that ends up on my desk as president, you the public will have five days to look online and find out what’s in it before I sign it, so that you know what your government’s doing,” Mr. Obama said as a candidate, telling voters he would make government more transparent and accountable. When he took office ...

Obama And Reid Continue Secret Health Care Negotiations
Flopping Aces —
Was it so long ago that Obama promised “no more secrecy?”
The Senate Finance Committee finally put their bill online (PDF). Printed out it comes to 1502 pages. That must be a record.
But the real story is that this 1502 page bill is nothing but a smokescreen behind which Obama and Senate Majority Leader Reid are hiding as they work in secret to craft the real bill that will voted on in the U.S. Senate. It may very well be that a “public option” which would lead to a federal takeover of health care could be in that bill. The public option is not in the Finance Committee bill but there is nothing which ...
Transparency We Can't Believe In
TigerHawk —
It's... transparency like you've never seen ! The White House blog gushes: We previously announced that the White House in December of this year would -- for the first time in history -- begin posting all White House visitor records under the terms of our new voluntary disclosure policy. As part of that initiative, we also offered to look back at the records created before the announcement of the policy and answer specific requests for visitor records created earlier in the year . They may have a point, if by transparency like you've never seen before , they mean "transparency that isn't actually transparent". Transparency isn't worth much unless it increases trust in ...
Remember When Obama Promised Not To Sign Bills Without Posting Them Online?
Say Anything —
Earlier today I posted about Nancy Pelosi refusing to post the finalized House version of the health care bill online before forcing a vote on it. That’s depressing news given that these Democrats campaigned on bringing transparency and ethics to Congress.
If they’re really in favor of transparency, why can’t they post the bill online so that the millions of Americans who are concerned about what is in this bill can read it and contact their representation with input? Is that not how our representative government is supposed to work?
Also, remember that during the campaign Obama promised that the “public will have 5 days to ...
